First Lawnmowers
Just heard the first lawnmower of the season. It seems to get earlier and earlier.
Can't somebody invent a non growing grass - they'd make a fortune!

We mow the lawn throughout the year, as long as it isn't too wet or frozen. If it's good enough for Alan Titchmarsh, it's good enough for us.

Just had my lawns scarified - I had so much moss - there's not much grass to cut now! Hope it gets warmer soon so that it can be seeded - it must be warmer down there on the Gower than up here in the Valleys GillD46 - I haven't cut my grass since end of October.

We do have a little lawn in our moss but hopefully that will be rectified by hardwork and dry weather.

I have never mowed a lawn in my life, had a kind landlord who took pity on me and came round every month to mow it for me, and now I live it flat, so no garden at all

Re: First Lawnmowers
Our son had fake grass put in which is probably like AstroTurf. From a distance you can't tell the difference and it feels so soft like real grass. The children love it as even if it rains it is dry enough to play on after 20 minutes. Obviously no need to mow but they do need to vacuum it once a week to pick up leaves as these would cause moss to grow in the fake grass. Very expensive but it does look fantastic.

It has not rained for two whole weeks. I cut the lawns last weekend and have spent the last few days painting the fence. With any luck, I will finish it before the middle of next week after which, if it is anything like 2012, it will probably rain for the rest of the year.

We haven't had rain for ages either. Almost everyone in our cul de sac has been out mowing their lawns and sprucing up the gardens.kaymar wrote:It has not rained for two whole weeks. Let's hope it doesn't signal yet another dismal summer.

I find if I spread the wild bird seed evenly across the grass, the wood pigeons peck at it and keep the grass nicely trimmed until it's dry enough for the first cut !

The lanmowers have been out down here in Somerset as well, even tho it is bitterly cold, only 3 or 4 degrees and we had frost yesterday.

There's nothing stopping you from doing ours when you are coming round for your dinner!welshynurse wrote:I have never mowed a lawn in my life, had a kind landlord who took pity on me and came round every month to mow it for me, and now I live it flat, so no garden at all

It's been so glorious here today, se have sat out in the garden all afternoon, in fact we're still sitting out there. Not. Only cut the lawn, but done a whole load of tidying up our new garden - as the previous owners obviously weren't gardeners!
