I'm really looking forward to the League Cup Final this afternoon...Bradford City v Swansea, who would have thought....Swansea will probably win but I think most people outside of Wales will want Bradford to win but if they don't nobody will mind Swansea winning....will they.

Burnley 0 - Huddersfield 1
Our first away win for months. 6 points clear of relegation places now. Onwards and upwards hopefully.
I see the Foxes has a good win too.

Re: Football
So, Manchester United face Chelsea in the FA Cup. As a Man Utd season ticket holder I have my pass to all home games but I am sure that tickets to this game will be like gold dust. I am glad Benitez has spoken out against a small mindless minority of fans who can't forget that Benitez once said something they didn't like. Chelsea have had nine managers in recent years which is an absolute joke. I like Benitez but I hope Utd beat Chelsea, just for the sake of it, and not because Utd are on course for another treble. On an educational note, for those of you who don't understand why some United fans wear 'Norwich' scarves. They are not Norwich scarves. Gold and green were the colours of Newton Heath - the team now called Manchester United. Wearing green and gold scarves is in support of the Manchester United Supporters Trust (MUST) a body who want Manchester United to be owned by the fans, a wish that is also held by fans of other clubs.

Re: Football
The Football League, the world’s original league football competition, is to celebrate its 125th anniversary during 2013.
On 2nd March 1888 a bloke called William McGregor, the Secretary of Aston Villa, sent this letter to clubs suggesting “that ten or twelve of the most prominent clubs in England combine to arrange home-and-away fixtures each season.”
This is the letter
he wrote the following letter to Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers, Preston North End and West Bromwich Albion:
“Every year it is becoming more and more difficult for football clubs of any standing to meet their friendly engagements and even arrange friendly matches. The consequence is that at the last moment, through cup-tie interference, clubs are compelled to take on teams who will not attract the public.
“I beg to tender the following suggestion as a means of getting over the difficulty: that ten or twelve of the most prominent clubs in England combine to arrange home-and-away fixtures each season, the said fixtures to be arranged at a friendly conference about the same time as the International Conference.
“This combination might be known as the Association Football Union, and could be managed by representative from each club. Of course, this is in no way to interfere with the National Association; even the suggested matches might be played under cup-tie rules. However, this is a detail.
“My object in writing to you at present is merely to draw your attention to the subject, and to suggest a friendly conference to discuss the matter more fully. I would take it as a favour if you would kindly think the matter over, and make whatever suggestions you deem necessary.
“I am only writing to the following – Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers, Preston North End, West Bromwich Albion, and Aston Villa, and would like to hear what other clubs you would suggest.”
The first season of The Football League kicked-off on 8th September 1888 with McGregor as its first Chairman. The 12 founder members of The Football League were Accrington, Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers, Burnley, Derby County, Everton, Notts County, Preston North End, Stoke, West Bromwich Albion, and Wolverhampton Wanderers. The first champions were Preston’s ‘invincibles’ who won 18 and drew 4 of their 22 league matches.

Before this professional clubs played only FA Cup matches and 'friendlies'.
The rest they say is history.

Re: Football
Ryan Giggs - Legend! He has signed a new one-year contract, a deal that will keep the winger at Old Trafford until June 2014 and see him complete his 23rd season as a first-team player.
Giggs, the most decorated football player this country has ever seen, signed professional forms with United in 1990 and made his debut on 2 March 1991. Since then, he has made a club-record 931 appearances, scoring 168 goals. He has won 12 Premier League titles, four FA Cups, three League Cups, two UEFA Champions Leagues, one Super Cup, an Intercontinental Cup and a FIFA Club World Cup.
Sir Alex Ferguson said: “What can I say about Ryan that hasn’t already been said? He is a marvellous player and an exceptional human being. Ryan is an example to us all, the way in which he has, and continues to, look after himself.
"He has fantastic energy for the game and it is wonderful to see. Ryan seems to reach a new milestone every week and to think that he now has 23 unbroken years of league goals behind him is truly amazing in the modern-day game. His form this year shows his ability and his enjoyment of the game are as strong as ever and I am absolutely delighted that he has signed a new contract.”
