So, the Supreme Court rules that MPs must have the vote on triggering A50.

Fine! Now get on with it please.

The ruling also states that the UK government does not require the approval of the Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland assemblies. Mrs Krankie will have apoplexy !

I see that the senior judges have decided that the majority verdict of the nation to leave the EU is insufficient mandate for the Government to trigger Clause 50.

I must have missed something - I thought we lived in a democracy where we accepted the majority decision of the electorate.

Also, if it is such a clear-cut, black and white, legal issue - how come 3 of the 11 Supreme Court judges ruled against the decision ?

The same thought crossed my mind as well Alan.

Surely you all realise that democracy only works if it is in the interests of the ruling elite, any other vote and they feel entitled to ignore it.

Farron is again calling for another referendum.

Why not? But if the result was the same, would he then accept it?

This is going to run and run.

I thought that MPs were to look after their constituents. ( silly me ) so if Parliament now votes NOT to trigger Article 50, all the MPs who voted against it should be named so the Constituencies that voted for leaving can exact punishment at the ballot box. Heard one MP this morning saying he would vote against leaving, even though his area voted to leave because they knew what they were getting when they voted in a Lib Dem.

They won't vote not to trigger it screwy.

Some will as a protest, but it will be carried by a vast majority.

It was 6 to 1 to agree to the referendum, they can't now vote it down because they don't like the result.

That would spark an immediate general election and Labour and the Lib/Dems would be virtually wiped out in certain parts of the country.

The SNP have promised 50 amendments. That should be interesting!

On a positive note, this will certainly pave the way for Sturgeon to call her much vaulted second Scottish referendum.

As they say darn sarf, put up or shut up.

It's all very well having a US/Mexico spat over the building of a wall along the border but the question has to be asked - why is life in Mexico so bad that their citizens feel it necessary to escape to north America?

I saw Tiny Tim on The Andrew Marr Show this morning. He was doing his usual miserable carping and demanding a second referendum once negotiations are complete. He seems to believe that if a public referendum rejects the deal then we just remain members of the EEC just as we are now. I thought that giving notice under article 50 was irrevocable and if we don't accept the terms offered we are still out of the EEC on WTO terms. What part of this does he not understands? No doubt if the remaining 27 countries were to beg us to remain then it would be an option but it wouldn't be our call would it?i

I was talking to my American DIL about this last night, and apparently it's because of the welfare benefits the Mexicans get in the US

I'm amazed that so many are amazed when Trump acts totally in character.

Maybe we've got so used to politicians saying something to get elected and then not doing it.

Anyone on here sign the online petition?

Anyone really bothered about what America do?

The latest from Mrs Krankie from the BBC
"It comes at a crucial juncture, with the clock ticking down to the triggering of Article 50 and with, so far, no sign whatsoever that the UK government is taking Scotland's position remotely seriously," Ms Sturgeon said.

Why should she ? Didn't the Supreme Court say it was up to the UK government and not the Scots

I am just sorry that the US weather seems so benign at present, I would prefer to see these left wing liberal elite protesters freezing their butts off in windy arctic temperatures.

Yesterday I did a major update to the forum software and due to the way some of the files were changed (not by me) there can be in some cases a few "strange" results. Doing a hard refresh of your browser (Ctrl + F5 on a PC) will clear the problem.

Headless chickens? Much ado? Spitting dummies out?
I don't agree with what Trump says or does but politics seems to be following a trend amongst those who backed the loser. "We didn't get the result we wanted so we'll make up all sorts of allegations, shout loud, protest and kick up a fuss in the hopes the decision will be reversed". Have we seen all of this somewhere before?
There is so much animosity from the far left against Trump with allegations of racism, misogyny, Islamophobia etc. Why have these people never complained about all those countries where these traits are rife within their own cultures. Where are the protests against the treatment of the Tibetans and the Nepalese, the atrocities being committed by Bashar al-Assad, the treatment of women in Pakistan, Saudi Arabia or against women in India. Isis must be laughing their evil little socks off!!!
As I say I do not approve of what Trump says or what he has done in the past but I do believe we should keep it in context. Somebody on the radio this morning was comparing him with Hitler!!! Maybe he hadn't heard of 9/11, the beheading of innocent people, the inhumane treatment of civilians by Isis or their avowed intent to create a caliphate. That is where the intent comes from and the reason why Trump, so clumsily in my opinion, seeks to protect his own borders.
Don't those who are protesting so vigorously have jobs to go to, even the anarchists amongst them?
I was taught to be cautious

I agree, These people are so used to getting their own way that they can't cope when something goes against them! They seem to think that if they shout and throw their dummy out they'll get what they want!
The other thing I notice is that they/media hardly ever give President Trump his title, after all he did win the election whether they like it or not.
