Help. Too hot Chilli
Hi all,
I have made a Chilli Con Carne to eat tonight. Just tested it and it nearly blew my head off. I must have doubled the amount of chilli I usually put in. The phone has never stopped today so was distracted. Any hints how I can resurrect it? I have already put in 1/2 bottle of red wine to see if that would work but still far too hot.

Sue - stir in some natural yoghurt bit by bit and keep testing.... Otherwise a HUGE jug of iced water is the order of the day

Water is the worst thing to drink with a hot meal - it's a short-term fix and the burning comes back even worse. Milk or yoghurt will moderate the heat. You could try adding sugar to the chilli but whilst that will reduce the heat, it can make it horribly sweet. Best answer, send it down to me - I luuurve hot chilli !

Re: Help. Too hot Chilli
Thanks all, QBman no chance of that. Garry has just tasted it and said it is the best Chilli I have ever made. Super hot more like a Vindaloo curry heat. So now I am going to take some out for me
and try the natural yoghurt idea. Thanks Jenni. MOB I will save your idea for another time methinks. At the moment I am finishing off the remaining 1/2 bottle of wine thinking that by dinner time I won't feel a thing anyway.

try a couple of spoons of honey, you can't taste the sweetness but it knocks out the spice. Bits of a lemon cut up, remove before serving, peel 2-3 large potatoes place in chilli, leave for half an hour, taste and leave in a bit longer if the chilli is still too spicy, and you could serve soured cream with it. Good luck.

Yoghurt is good. The red wine idea only works if you use a whole bottle and put it in you rather than the chilli.

I was going to suggest the potato idea - add peeled potatoes and cook for at least 25 mins then see how the flavour is!!

Re: Help. Too hot Chilli
Hi all,
Well the Chilli went down okay. I did put poatoes in to try them out and removed them before serving it. Garry enjoyed it and I tolerated it. The bottle of wine helped. At least I didn't pig out so diet still on track.
Thanks for all the tips.
