Unnecessary words

Unread post by Mervyn and Trish »

I saw something today that made me think about the words wasted, especially in official notices. So I thought I'd start a thread where we could post those daft phrases and the shorter more sensible version.

What I saw today was

Cleaning operative = cleaner

I can give you one. My daughter works for an American company in Recruitment. Now she is not just Head of Recruitment but she is a 'Talent Acquisitions Specialist'! How about that! Also instead of 'Contact me if there's any problems' it's 'Please reach out to me' Yuk!
I won't tell you what my daughter said on being told about this.

Last night on our flight home, the menu we were given offered 'stilton cheese' (with a red onion marmalade and oatmeal biscuits). I would have thought that as this was obviously at the end of the menu where the cheese offering would have been described, that inserting the word cheese wasn't really required.

I could be wrong.
