Re: New motor
I have a Golf SV which fits your description, like it a lot but it does have some flaws, front seats are not supportive enough nowhere near as good as my old Golf plus, the 1.6TDI engine is good and economical but lacks punch, and of course its a VW so as strong as a tiger tank.
Other options I considered at the time were the Citroen C4 Picasso and the Peugot 3008, would probably have bought the Citroen if the dealer had given me as good a cash deal as the VW dealer did.
All those are diesels which now seem to be the devils spawn, so maybe I would now look at the Hyundai Ioniq petrol hybrid if I was in the market.

Re: New motor
We got the new BMW X1, suberb motor, yes it's diesel but i like diesel. Ours is the S drive not the X. So much interior space, rear bench moves back and forward for extra boot space which in itself is spacious. And only £30 tax.

Hi Ray... look for one with a quality interior and you won't go far wrong as far as the build is concerned.

Re: New motor
Only if you buy new, second hand registered before April still have the old car tax levels.

Re: New motor
Given your age you may not wish to spend too much .... so
VW are a good brand re SUVs but consider also the SEAT Ateca instead, essentially the same motor but a whole lot cheaper.
OR ... get a nearly new second hand 4 x 4 Nissan (S)Quashi-ish.

If I had been privy to your current health state Ray then yes, my remark would be in poor taste. Bit I'm not.Ray Scully wrote: 03 Apr 2017, 12:36Given the parlous state of my heath I consider your comment inappropriate![]()

Re: New motor
funny you should say that Stephen because the Reliant Robin was our families first car...although l have to say l preferred our motor bike and sidecar......happy days sticking our heads out of the roof.....wind in hair and all that.
Oh' and no, l was basing it on our roller in the garage.

Re: New motor
Doesn't matter what engine you put in it, a Reliant Robin will never look like a Mazda CX-3.
I did hear of someone a few years ago who shoehorned a Jaguar engine into a Reliant. He got stopped doing 140mph. Those things are unstable over 50mph.

Re: New motor
Years ago a mate had a Reliant van. When he came across a brick in the road he aimed to get one wheel either side with the brick safely in the middle. He forgot about the front wheel.

Re: New motor
Get the front wheel on one of those tar expansion lines that go down the road instead of across, and the wheel wobbles alarmingly.
Does anyone still go over to Europe to get a new car more cheaply?
