The burka you were wearing probably didn't help.

Were you told off by someone in authority or just a busybody?
Sometimes these places have rules the staff don't actually understand.
Like the day I tried to buy two small packets of Paracetamol in a supermarket and two of Ibuprofen and was told I couldn't.
I was told first it was the law (no it isn't, the legal limit for a non pharmacy is well above what I was trying to buy) and then it was because they all contain Paracetomol.
When I pointed out two were actually Ibuprofen I was informed that contained Paracetomol as well. Doh!

Certainly an employee but I think it was the bloke who sweeps up
Don't the supermarket checkout tills automatically stop them putting through more than 2 packs of painkillers regardless of what they contain

They do. Over caution. And a waste of time. If you really want to kill yourself you can go to another till or another shop and buy more. But in our case when we both had heavy colds and needed to top up our medicine drawer it was a pain in the bum when I was already feeling miserable.

The stupid thing is Merv, you can pay for two packets, then go back, pick another two, go to a different till and buy them.Mervyn and Trish wrote: 13 Apr 2017, 13:40Were you told off by someone in authority or just a busybody?

Big decision this morning.
Is it going to be toast, bacon toasty, hot cross buns or scrambled egg on toast for breakfast

Re: The Children's Off Topic Thread
Bacon toasty won the day.............with half a hot cross bun coffee time. We couldn't afford a whole one.

Pain in the proverbial it may be, but the restriction on pack sizes of Paracetamol has dramatically reduced the suicide/parasuicide rate. Why? because it means people generally have smaller quantities at home, and most overdoses are done on impulse rather than being planned in advance. But I still cannot see any sense in including Ibuprofen as though it was the same thing.

Re: The Children's Off Topic Thread
Are you certain the two are connected? We still have at least 5 or 6 X 32 pack tablets in stock at any one time, mind you I can think of much faster and less painful ways of topping myself than killing off my liver and then dying in agony. Maybe publicising that is what has reduced the incidence. Not so ancient mariner wrote: 15 Apr 2017, 07:34Pain in the proverbial it may be, but the restriction on pack sizes of Paracetamol has dramatically reduced the suicide/parasuicide rate. Re: The Children's Off Topic Thread
I don't think it has reduced the suicide rate at all. The figure for 2016 was a 20 year high. There's simply been a slight shift from overdosing to hanging and other physical methods of suicide. Suicide is a dreadful thing. Making one method slightly more difficult by inconveniencing those in genuine need of pain relief isn't the answer. Addressing the causes is more important. Not so ancient mariner wrote: 15 Apr 2017, 07:34Pain in the proverbial it may be, but the restriction on pack sizes of Paracetamol has dramatically reduced the suicide/parasuicide rate.
