On a slight change of subject, what does the jury think about the proposal to impose road tax on all vehicles? My view is that it is fair enough because, even if a car emits no/low polution, it's still pounding the tarmac.

Re: Current Affairs
Well, if we taxed bicycles, it would mean some sort of registration system, which would mean we can report those who think it acceptable to ignore traffic lights and ride on footpaths
Councils are spending a lot of money building cycle paths, which have to be paid for somehow.
Mobility scooters... hmm, hadn't thought about those.

I think you make a good point about wear and tear of our road no matter which tax band a car falls into....l don't however think it would be fair to introduce higher tax bands for cars that were bought under the lower car tax system.

And no pollution cars are a myth. They shift pollution to a different place, where the electricity to charge them is generated rather than where there are driven. They are not zero pollution.
And I read they actually cause more wear and tear because the electric or hybrid cars are heavier than their conventional equivalents.
But we all know any connection between so called road tax and maintenance of the roads is also a myth!

Re: Current Affairs
I read an article in the paper last week about sterling's prospects, it said it would continue to improve during April, but would then slip back over the rest of the year. It gave no reasons for this view, other than the Brexit effect, but so far it is proving true.
Now how did they know this unless the market is rigged to provide profits for currency traders; am I too cynical or just a conspiracy theorist.

With their missile reliability they may be a little way from risking a nuclear warhead!

Perhaps they should invest in fireworks rather than missiles.

Now Turkey appears to have turned it's back on democracy. Don't think they'll be in the EU any time soon

So, we have a General Election on June 8th. Not sure I can stand 6 weeks of political bickering and in-fighting - think I'll pop off to North Korea

No no, don't let him go. They're on the brink of war as it is, they don't need him to tip them over the edgeManoverboard wrote: 18 Apr 2017, 13:57We can only live in hopeqbman1 wrote: 18 Apr 2017, 11:36So, we have a General Election on June 8th.
