Some Very Sad News
It has been reported on Cruise Critic, and from what I have been told I have no reason not to believe it, that our friend Silver Shiney sadly suffered a brain haemorrhage on Thursday from which he did not recover.
I know that I speak for everyone here when I say that I am totally devastated. I never had the pleasure of meeting Alan in person but I felt that through this, and the P&O Community before it, that I knew him and he always came across as an honest and caring person - a "real gentleman"
Again I think I can speak on behalf of everyone on here that out thoughts at this time are with his family and friends.
May he rest in peace.
(Always remembered - never forgotten)

Re: Some Very Sad News
I am so sorry to hear this sad news - you are quite right David - he was a gentleman - he used to call me "fair maiden" in our exchanges and I have to admit I feel quite choked up. I hadn't met him either but felt I knew him - that's what it is like on this forum - friendly people who not only enjoy cruises but love a bit of banter and fun. RIP Shiney boy you will be sadly missed - my thoughts are with your family.

Re: Some Very Sad News
This is indeed very sad news, like others on here I never met Alan but had built up what I felt was a very friendly relationship with him on the forum and he will be fondly remembered.
My sincere condolences to his wife and family in their sad loss; good night and God Bless Shiney old boy.

Lost for words.... (He'd be impressed by that!)
Doesn't his daughter post in here too?
Rest in peace Shiney - my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family - and also for the charity for which you worked so tirelessly

That is desperately sad news. Like others I never met Shiney in real life but felt he was a friend on here (particularly when helping to fend off the also rans on the LOTP thread! )
A real gentleman with a kind word for everyone. My condolences to his family and personal friends at this sad time. RIP Lord Shiney.

Re: Some Very Sad News
I was shocked and saddened to hear this awful news. SS (formerly known as "Scanner Man" - at least by me !) seemed to be a real gent and I am sure his words will be sadly missed by us all. If there is any consolation, it would appear that he did not suffer unduly at the end but we have to be so sorry for his family, friends and colleagues left behind. They must be absolutely devastated.
Yes, Meg, Alan's daughter was formerly a regular contributor before she emigrated (Australia if I remember correctly). Alan always called her "Welshy" - welshynurse was her username.
Whilst I never had the pleasure of meeting "Mr SS", I always regarded him as an ethereal friend. RIP dear man.

R.I.P Alan.
Oh dear.
As a devoutly religious man I believe you will be at peace with the good Lord ... I also hope that your family will share the same comfort at this very sad time.

Re: Some Very Sad News
Oh, my goodness. My heart goes out to Alan's Wife and family. I know, only too well, what they are going through. Alan was lovely with his words to me on the loss of my dear Michael.
It doesn't help, but Alan is not suffering - a lovely man. Like others, I never met him, but he contributed so much with wise words.
My love and prayers to you all. Jean x

Re: Some Very Sad News
Oh no, this is sad beyond description. Bradley Stoke has lost a really wonderful, kind and helpful understanding gentleman - and so have we.
