This awful news was the first thing I read when I logged on after my holiday. Such a shock - I always made a point of reading his posts as he seemed such a pleasant man. I will miss him on here. My condolences to his family.

I don't come on here very often but felt awful when reading this sad news. Alan helped me a lot when first cruising and with my OH having been in the same RAF trade we also chatted about the RAF. RIP Alan

How proud Alan's family would be to know how highly regarded he was on this forum.
A very fitting tribute to him.

Agree Lindsey....it would be nice to think his family might see these tributes and know that he was respected by so many and that in some small way we share their loss

Re: Some Very Sad News
Very sad news. SS was stationed at R A F Stanbridge/Oxenden I seem to remember and we had a few chats about that and the local cricket team. Always a pleasure to talk to. Strokes can hit anyone at any time, but it is still a shock when it happens. R I P Shiney.

Re: Some Very Sad News
Agree absolutely, Lindsey. I know Alan's daughter "Welshy" is a member and I guess Claire may look in. Reading through the tributes again, they are still quite moving. I don't think anyone could find a bad word to say about Alan.Whynd1 wrote: 23 Apr 2017, 19:24How proud Alan's family would be to know how highly regarded he was on this forum.

Re: Some Very Sad News
Thank you all so much for the thoughts and words about my dad. Mum wasn't sure which forum this was so I'm glad the message got across.
It was a big shock and he will be very much missed.
I haven't been on here for 3 years but I will definitely be back now. I will also pass on your condolences to mum.

Re: Some Very Sad News
Zoe - I never had the privilege to meet your dad but he always came across as a fine, upstanding man and always spoke very highly of you and the family. He was even kind enough to source and bring me back some carrot seeds following a trip to the States a year or two back! Alan is certainly very much missed around here so I can only imagine that it must be a million times worse for you.welshynurse wrote: 11 May 2017, 21:00Thank you all so much for the thoughts and words about my dad. Thank you
I remember the carrots!
I have passed on everyones kind words to mum and she is very touched. She is planning on joining this merry ship at some point as she is not giving up the cruising!

Oh no - how terribly sad. Shiney (alan) was a wonderful gentleman and always teased me when I moved from Bristol to Somerset! This forum will never be the same without him.

Having been away from the forum for some time I had missed this bad news.
While we inherently disagreed, I am proud to have 'locked horns' and I echo this forum will never be the same without him.
Godspeed Mr. Shiney

Re: Some Very Sad News
Indeed we will all miss Shiney One. Even when somebody posted quite disparaging remarks about his faith and religion he remained the perfect gentleman. He was a lovely chap and will be long remembered on this forum.
