Re: General Election - 8th June
That's what's called calling everyone's bluff.
I wonder what odds I would get on Labour winning?

Always seemed the best option available, just happy she's had a change of heart. I imagine there will be mutterings about opportunism from some quarters.

Re: General Election - 8th June
Hi David....l'll give you 10/... nah, sod it l'll give you 12/1 about Labour winning the next general election .... better odds than you'll get at any high street bookie....let me know how much do you want me to stand.
I would say calling a June election is a good move ....The Conservative party obviously feel they have more chance of retaining power than what they might have should there be an economic downturn before and after the 2020 general election.
It looks like Theresa is here to stay.

Maybe, just maybe, the Scots might have a change of heart and knock Mrs Krankie back a peg or two at the same time - or is that too much to hope for ?

I've no problem with the election itself, it's just all the cobblers we are going to have to listen to between now and 8th June !

A good move I say. It'll shut the opposition up one way or the other.

You really think so ?!Stephen wrote: 18 Apr 2017, 14:14A good move I say. It'll shut the opposition up one way or the other.
Corbyn will deny it ever happened and Mrs Krankie will demand a re-run !

Are we going to have a referendum to determine if an election should be held ?

Yes but, Tim Farron and his millions of supporters and hundreds of MP's is going to ensure that Theresa keeps us in the single market.

The opponents of Brexit wanted a second referendum. In effect this is it. It'll be the major issue and if TM wins it'll be an endorsement of her approach. And the end of Corbyn.

Looks like no TV debates this time round. Now, that's something to be thankful for !

Good, I don't think TM would fare well on one of those, mind you I can't see JC or TF doing any better.

I see Krankie is calling the election decision shameful. Sure sign she's worried she's going to lose some of her seats. Otherwise she'd be welcoming it.

Oh if only we could! She changes her mind(opinions) at the drop of a hat..... as I have said before SNP are only interested in independence at any price. I would really, really like to see Alec Salmond, Angus Robertson(?) and our local MP to lose their seats I don't suppose it will happen but I can dream for a while;)qbman1 wrote: 18 Apr 2017, 15:52Can we see Mrs Krankie's end too.......please !Mervyn and Trish wrote: 18 Apr 2017, 15:50The opponents of Brexit wanted a second referendum. Well Theresa's general election call has certainly had a beneficial effect on Sterling, it finished over 1.28 to the dollar and almost 1.20 to the euro. Let's hope for a big Tory majority and a superb batting performance from our Brexit negotiators.

Wonder whether the SNP will vote in favour of the election in the Commons today. My money's on a mass abstention from the Jocks !Mervyn and Trish wrote: 18 Apr 2017, 18:04I see Krankie is calling the election decision shameful. Re: General Election - 8th June
She needs to make up her mind since it was she who said TM had not been elected and, as such, had no mandate. You can't have it both ways. TM has now laid down the gauntlet to all those who were determined to delay Brexit in any way they could, 'all in the name of democracy', and now it is up to the British public. As Merv says, they wanted a second referendum so, in many ways, that is what they have got...................and they are still moaning.Mervyn and Trish wrote: 18 Apr 2017, 18:04I see Krankie is calling the election decision shameful. Re: General Election - 8th June
Of course Krankie's problem is she has everything to lose and so little to gain. She has 56 out of the 59 Scottish seats at Westminster. It would take a miracle to improve on that and only the slightest wobble to lose one or two. And the Scots I know are very disillusioned by the SNP's performance as the party in power in Scotland, with services going down the pan while she concentrates on her single independence agenda.
