I had an Uncle who done the same thing (donating body)
Mind you think of the positive you're lucky to have them live as long. My father died when I was 26 (on my daughter's 2nd birthday) and my mother when I was 41
I agree, know it's an awful worry when have elderly parents who get poorly, but my mum passed away in her sleep age 44, was classed as a same as a cot death... I was 24 years old and 27 weeks pregnant with my first child. I would give anything for her to have grown old. I am now 12 years older than my dear mum was when she passed away.

Yesterday my mum was taken to the Anatomy Dept at Cardiff - for up to three years. It was hard enough seeing the Undertaker take her away when she died, but seeing her go, knowing what was going to be done to her body was truly horrible. But we have arranged things exactly as she wanted.

Just the Memorial Service to get through next week now.

It was her wish Gill and you have carried that out. A friend's father did just as your Mum did ,and eventually had a committal service, which I am sure that you have been advised can be undertaken at a later date. We are considering a donation to the brain bank at PUK, for both of us, one with and one without, as yet; should give them some research material that may be beneficial for future generations. Not us though, even after 19 years.

Don't be sad, be glad that you Mum gave an amazing contribution to furthering the knowledge of future doctors, surgeons and researchers.

We've never met, but I feel so truly very sorry about all this. I know what you are going through, although in our case the medical organisation involved in the donation declined the donation, and we were able to go ahead with the usual funeral routine.

Thinking of you - but you have done everything correctly, your conscience is entirely clear, and you now need to look after yourself. You won't have any regrets, and you know without any doubt that you have done your best

Take care, condolences and best wishes.

Thank you for the condolences everyone. It's going to take a while to sink in I think.
