I can never understand why there has to be set figure to have a majority. Surely whoever gets the most votes wins, be that by one or one hundred votes.
I might put my name down for the job

Only if you have a system of proportional representation - in the UK we do not therefore it is the number of "bums on seats" that matters and you need to have more bums (yes I know what I have said!) than the others have bums in order to win the votes in the House of Commons - simples

I think we all know that David but maybe, like a company board, there should be a casting vote available for the governing party with the highest share of the vote.david63 wrote: 09 Jun 2017, 08:03Only if you have a system of proportional representation - in the UK we do not therefore it is the number of "bums on seats" that matters and you need to have more bums (yes I know what I have said!) than the others have bums in order to win the votes in the House of Commons - simples![]()

I agree with your logic and reasoning Moby, but you forget that Mrs Krankie possesses little of either.Manoverboard wrote: 09 Jun 2017, 09:05The only good thing about this election, from my standpoint, is that we should hear less about another Scottish independence vote anytime soon.![]()

A promise he cannot fulfil because he doesn't have a majority so now you are left with an MP nobody else wants and those very students will have disappeared in a few years' time to be replaced by another set.barney wrote: 09 Jun 2017, 10:19
so, what swung it to Labour?
40,000 students who were promised that their student debt would be written off.
How many of these 40,000 students will remain in Canterbury when their studies finish?
So a solid blue seat is turned red by a transient population and the residents have to put up with a hard left MP who the locals didn't want.![]()

I 100% agree.screwy wrote: 09 Jun 2017, 10:50Lots of University Cities/Towns will feel the same as you Barney, lumbered with an MP they dont want because of the student vote.Perhaps they should be made to vote from their home Address not student address.

Sounds about right to me screwy.screwy wrote: 09 Jun 2017, 19:02So what happens now.? May says she will form a govt backed up by the DUP..She also says that she will be starting Brexit Negotiations in 10 day time..! There is talk of another Election in the Autumn ? and maybe a leadership contest.?
Ok, she has screwed up big time, underestimated Corbyn but didnt we all.? Plus it was a shocking campain and a betrayel of Tory core voters with the Manifesto for what that was worth.
She isnt going to be able to implement the policies that were in there and Comrade Corbyn wont be able to push his False Hope policies on the Country, so we hit a stalemate of sorts.
Think we need to let her get on with Brexit while softening the tone of her policies. Now is not the time for 3 month leadership contests or anothe GE.
Certainly once Brexit is sorted a new leader should be sought to carry on till the end of this Parliament..
Well, thats what i think....for what it's worth. but what do i know..
