Company refusing money

Unread post by Kendhni »

We are just back from a week in Rhodes with friends. It was booked via Thomson (First Choice). After booking I went into upgrade Julie and I to extra leg room seating but couldn't because I had booked for all of us and an upgrade could only be made if everyone on the booking took the upgrade ... but nobody else wanted to pay.

I contacted the call centre and they told me there was nothing they could do (I even suggested splitting the booking, but they couldn't be bothered), they tole me that they may be able to sort it out after final payment.
After final payment I contacted the call centre and they told me there was nothing they could do but to try 2 weeks before going.
Two weeks before going I contacted the call centre and they told me there was nothing they could do but to try 48 hours before the flight.
48 hours before the flight I contacted the call centre and they said there was nothing they could do but suggested I talk to the check in agent
I talked to the check in agent who told me there was nothing they could do.
I talked to the TUI rep at the resort to see if we could sort it out for the flight back and was told there was nothing he could do.

Note that on all occasions I wasn't asking for a free upgrade I was willing to pay the full price ... at one point I even jokingly begged the call centre agent to let me give them some money.

What annoys me most is that on both the flight out and the flight back there were extra leg room seats available ... and worse was a young couple who told the person beside them that they did their usual trick of pretending to be on honeymoon to get a free upgrade.

It's called beurocracy and red tape Ken, or as we know it can't be ar*ed.

They don't do themselves any favours these companies as I suspect they have lost any future custom from you. But do they care. What do you reckon

I personally love situations like this, as I'm like a dog with a bone and will take it to the highest level possible. It may not get me anywhere but at least I have made my point and given the hyrarchy something to ponder.

I would have moved seats. Bet the cabin crew didn't know who had booked what. How would they? We do that sometimes in the cinema when there are no aisle seats left to book and when we have sat through the ads, and nobody has come to occupy them, we move.

We had considered that but as the plane closed its doors those in the extra legroom seats which were in banks of 3, moved themselves around so that there were only a middle seats available ... they would probably have been cheesed off if someone jumped in the middle of them.
