However this is the current affairs thread, there are plenty of other cruise related threads to choose from, or even contribute to.
Curent affairs, with an 's'. Not just one or two repetitive topics, not past history, current topics. There other, current, topics that could be aired, as London Cruiser has just illustrated.

I would love to contribute more to cruise threads towny but they will all be in my past experience, albeit our last was just under a year ago, maybe old information now, hope that is OK? I think that I recently contributed to a query regarding Naples, where we have visited, not only on a cruise, but on a land based holiday and had some info for the poster which may have been useful.

With almost 400 nights at sea but only 9 ships and 4 cruise lines then maybe I don't have as much as others to contribute, but I try.
I contribute where and when I can with the limitations of my daily life.

Every time I see the title for some reason I read it as 'Currant affairs' and get the image of a raisin shagging a sultana ... maybe I really do need a bit of help!

Perhaps we need more people raising more cruise related topics.
It would be nice, but this forum is almost dead on the cruising front.

If there was an upsurge in cruising discussions I might be persuaded to log in more often.

But I no longer have much interest in this forum, as I feel I'm not with like minded people any more.

Sorry Gill but there is no editorial team. The forum relies on its members to raise matters for discussion so if there is something you are interested in which is more to your liking then I feel sure we would be interested in discussing it.
Part of the problem is that many of us are experienced cruisers and have contributed to a forum in one form or another so many of the cruising topics have already been debated to death. However there must be somebody out there who would like to tap into that cruising expertise or raise issues which concern them.
Now, what would you like to be discussed and we'll see what we can do?

I have just checked and out of the top twelve topics currently open for discussion seven are cruise related, four are games/drivelchat related.

I particularly enjoy cruise reports and views, but don't see many on the forum these days

There's been a few new threads over the last day or so, but most times I check it seems to be the same threads at the top as the last time I looked.

I have to agree with this there is very little chat about cruising.

As I said before, the forum relies on its members to raise topics. There is a small band of members who post reports and raise issues of a cruising nature but we need more active members otherwise the forum does look thin on cruising matters. The more who contribute their ideas the better.

Is there anything we members can do to publicise the forum and encourage new members?

Possibly Merv, maybe the Mods could step in to prevent Cruise specific threads from meandering off topic too readily. I know its just the way a lot of us use the forum, but perhaps we should be more circumspect in the way we treat cruising threads, and limit our off topic chatter to the inane threads that already exist.

I don't think it's a case of encouraging more new members, although the more the merrier, more a case of the already 1,701 members to contribute more or why become a member. Perhaps a global reminder from our leader to all members may help encourage fresh content.

Then we could have the "Childrens Off Topic Thread v2"? Just saying................. :sarcasm:
We do attract new members who ask questions and seek advice but in most cases that's the last we hear from them once they have the information they are seeking. Such is the nature of forums.
As Stephen says we need more of the 1701 members contributing.

I look in on a couple of other forums to read posts as well as this one but I only contribute to this one as I find it much friendlier. All the forums I check seem to be 'held together' by the same regular bunch of contributors and all the other forums seem to cover subjects other than cruising so I don't think this is the only forum with this problem.

I think we have had so many political stories just lately because it seems to me that so much is happening that affects this country quite dramatically almost every day.

Not just forums. The same is true of the likes of Facebook - unless you are a serial moaner

As for getting new members or existing members to post this is an age old problem with this type of board to which nobody has yet found the answer

So ... .

Foxy, ex teacher / headmaster / Maths Specialist says that he checked the top twelve Topics .... he advised that seven were cruise related and four were chat / drivel ...

It used to be the case that 7 + 4 equals 11 rather than 12 .... Just saying
