May as well for all the use it is. Last time I had cause to call 101, by the time I had gone through the rigmarole of giving all the details their standard form required, the culprit had grown old and died !

I actually saw plod on the beat in Maldon high street yesterday. Well I say on the beat, he was probably just on a coffee and bun errand and thought he'd better dress up for the part.

So what is the standard fish served in a fish & chip meal served in chip shops around the country...& what is it called?

In Newcastle it would be cod & fish & chips would be called 'a paper'.
In Aberdeen haddock would be the fish & fishb& chips would be ordered as a 'fish supper'.

Can't answer that Ranchi on the grounds I would be on topic :D

Oh s*d it.

Cod around here. Cod and chips. That's it.

Mind you, it's not a cheap meal any more. Takeaway cod and chips for two will set you back over £10.

Should move here Stephen.

Our favourite is "Mini Order"

Small fish chips and peas, but more than enough for us. £2.70 each

And the fish is ..... well fish. Cod-ish but probably depends on Market Prices that day. But always excellent

Cod or Haddock dependant on the chip shop, or maybe even a choice, but "bits" in Yorkshire are the bits of batter that fall off the fish as they are frying, which you can ask for as a "free" extra, and you don't get many of those in Yorkshire.
