We also opt to be driven to the Cruise / Rail Terminals plus Airports / Airport Hotels these days, far more relaxing for the start, and indeed the end, of one's holiers.

Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

I know we'll never agree on this Towny, however I think it is far superior service to drive up to the door, get out and watch your luggage disappear before a short stroll into the terminal, than the ABP system of park your car yourself and then have to walk back to the terminal. Especially when it's slatting down with rain.towny44 wrote: 24 Jul 2017, 08:42You don't think that maybe at busy times CPS might need to move your car around?Stephen wrote: 24 Jul 2017, 08:03I can sort of understand it. With CPS your car is parked up and that is it. With a hotel you never know who is going to be moving it around.
However I do much prefer the ABP system used at City Terminal where you park up and your car stays put the whole cruise, you would think with so much derelict space around the current terminals, especially Mayflower, that P&O could somehow operate the same system. Maybe its because customer service is not part of P&O's DNA. ( Ooh sorry but I just can't help myself sometimes.![]()

We are fairly lucky Merv, the blue badge car park is only 25 yds awaý from the terminal, and it rarely rains in Southampton.Mervyn and Trish wrote: 24 Jul 2017, 17:06I know we'll never agree on this Towny, however I think it is far superior service to drive up to the door, get out and watch your luggage disappear before a short stroll into the terminal, than the ABP system of park your car yourself and then have to walk back to the terminal. As a blue badge holder it's right you are looked after Towny. No quibble there. Just pleased CPS don't make the rest of us walk either!

The difference is CPS don't clamp a taxi board to the rooftowny44 wrote: 24 Jul 2017, 08:42You don't think that maybe at busy times CPS might need to move your car around?Stephen wrote: 24 Jul 2017, 08:03I can sort of understand it. No but quite often they frustrate you by having you queue for long periods while they are waiting for drivers to return, you don't have that added issue with the ABP system. Horses for courses and I know which I prefer, even if if I have to wheel my good lady a little further.Mervyn and Trish wrote: 24 Jul 2017, 18:27As a blue badge holder it's right you are looked after Towny. Re: New Harbour Hotel Southampton
I trust C and PS, however, I do much prefer the City Terminal system operated by ABP. On the few occasions when we have driven down to City Terminal for ABP parking, they've taken our luggage from us as we park the car - they've even lifted it out of the car for us. (Other times we've been driven down, and that of course is different). However, I can't recall C and PS ever offering to remove our luggage from the car - I'll watch what they do next time we use them. I do know though that during a time when himself had hurt his back, using C and PS, I was left to either get the luggage out myself or wait for help - which didn't happen. I took all the luggage out of the car myself, rather than get soaking wet waiting for help.

CPS do not take your luggage out of your car but quite often the ports do and certainly will if you ask them - in fact on some occasions the luggage has gone before you can get out of the car!
Which terminal was that at? I thought all the terminals at Soton were under cover.

Re: New Harbour Hotel Southampton
I think that the porters who take your luggage work for the Terminal not CPS.
I've had them offer but declined and would rather do it myself.
Back to hotels, our next holiday starts on Bank holiday Monday so to avoid traffic I've booked the Travel lodge in Southampton centre for £46.00 for the night excluding breakfast.
It's five minutes from West Quay so we'll drive down Sunday night, park up, get a bit of dinner in town, have a kip, get up and go back into West quay about half ten for brekkers, have a mooch around and kill a bit of time.
Then about half one, onwards to the ship.
Sounds like a plan.

City Terminal luggage drop off isn't under cover, as far as I remember, though I may be wrong as it was a long time ago, but that's used by RCI and Celebrity and they don't use CPS.david63 wrote: 25 Jul 2017, 09:08CPS do not take your luggage out of your car but quite often the ports do and certainly will if you ask them - in fact on some occasions the luggage has gone before you can get out of the car!Which terminal was that at? Re: New Harbour Hotel Southampton
So did I until, with impeccable timing, this rolled up in my inbox a little while ago:
So vague is it that I am little the wiser for its words, and even had to Google the name of the company that sent it (SCH Limited). The only parts I have removed are the address and telephone number of the sender.
Dear Sir/Madam,
Cruise Queen Victoria – Departure Date 8th June 2017
We wish to inform you that unfortunately whilst we moved your vehicle to Queen Elizabeth Terminal Car Park from Ocean Terminal Car Park for your return a port camera was switched on.
Therefore Parking Eye, the Port Parking Company may have issued you with a parking fine, please be assured that this fine has been cancelled by the port ABP, and you will receive a cancelation letter in due course.
We are very sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused.

It is, and not remotely informative. I would guess that either yor car was in an area of the docks where a "private" would not normally be expected or it was over the speed limit which, I think, in some areas of the docks is 20mph.

Ocean Terminal. There is a roofed area for dropp-off, but the absence of structures lead to zero protection.david63 wrote: 25 Jul 2017, 09:08CPS do not take your luggage out of your car but quite often the ports do and certainly will if you ask them - in fact on some occasions the luggage has gone before you can get out of the car!Which terminal was that at? Agreed, Boris. In June this year it was hammering down and we (or rather he, on the driver's side)Boris+ wrote: 25 Jul 2017, 15:50

I guess it depends on dates. Ours is between Chritsmas and New Year and happens to be the night before our Ruby Anniversary.
