We'll be starting our Xmas prep (presents etc) early September - it'll be nice to get in the festive spirit.

Like Lisa and Sue, I love Christmas and do start preparing in September - usually. This year we're going to be away so I shan't have much to do at home, but no doubt will have plenty to do at our daughter's!

But, sorry Lisa, even for me, August is a bit early.

Doesn't your husband get a bit of stick walking around dressed like that all year?

I also start preparing in September in fact I even bought a couple of Xmas gifts last week, as we go away for Xmas I always aim to have everything bought and wrapped by the end of October and Xmas cards written by mid November .. presents usually delivered first week in December and then I can concentrate on cruise packing

We go away in three weeks time and then I think I'm going to have to start thinking about Christmas too. As we go away for our long 65 night trip on 3rd January I'd like to get everything sorted early. I'd like to get the expenditure done and paid for so there are no credit card bills still to be paid. We are going to my daughter's for Christmas Day and possibly Boxing Day too so I've nothing to think about as far as food is concerned. I'm actually thinking something I never thought I'd even consider. I love Christmas, always have done, and, apart from last year when we were on the Christmas Markets cruise which left, I think on 6th December and then we were away on a Canaries Cruise on 2nd January, had a real Christmas Tree. Last year I bought one of the pre-lit ones - a white frosted one which did look lovely - well apart from all the frosting which came off all over me as I put the tree together! This year I'm thinking that with the long trip to plan for, being away over Christmas itself, do I really want to go to the bother of putting up a tree, getting all the baubles etc. out then having to take it down again, before New Year and get everything put away. We have a fantastic holly tree in our garden which this year looks as though it will be laden with berries. So providing I can get to it before the birds do I think I might just have a massive display of holly with some white Chrysanths or lilies. I have an angel which goes on the top of the tree - bought by me from Selfridges in I think, December 1966 and which used to go on top of my parents' tree, and ever since I inherited her has gone on the top of our tree. So she will have to have an outing whether I have a tree or not, but not perched on top of the holly!

I wonder how long this thread will be by Christmas!

Christmas Tree problem solved. Last year I bought, in their sale, a frosted fir tree, pre-lit from Balsam Hill. They provide artificial trees for lots of the tv programmes at Christmas. It was very impressive - 7ft, came in three sections, lower one had a plug attached. You plugged that it and then slotted in the middle section - all the lights came on - then the top section and its lights came on, so easy. I could still use that one this year but I don't want to have to get out all the decorations etc and then take it all down and put away straight after Christmas before we go away. So I looked at the Balsam Hill site again, sale time, and discovered they have a four foot tree, in pot, with decorations already on and battery lights included. I thought this would be an easy solution for this coming Christmas and it was a good reduction, in fact when I got to the payment page it was £20 less than the advertised sale price so happy with that. Don't know what John will say - well yes I do - We don't need another tree! He's not here at the moment, down in Dorset building an extension on our cottage there. It was me who said - we don't need another bedroom but we are getting one. At least my Christmas tree costs far less than the extension and so I will tell him when he moans!

Isn't this fun, a Christmas thread started early!!

Ohh it is fun Carole!! Love the run up to Christmas !!!
Altough I'm sitting here surrounded by fairy lights, champagne flutes, pink table clothes ...getting the Pimp Your Prosecco table set up for our party on Saturday.
It's reminding of Christmas a lot, as quite a bit preparation going into it.. It's just the music that's different....no Christmas songs playing.. Yet.....just a bit of John Legend :D :D
