Re: The Children's Off Topic Thread
You've got it - seek everyone's opinion and then do exactly what you were going to do in the first place anyway

I think it should be called 'The Wheeltappers and Shunters Social Club' Committee.

If you're wanting an Oscar nomination for director, you're on the wrong forum.

I sometimes think I'm on the wrong forum anyway! Other days I have no idea where I am at all.

Stop whingeing - we're simply obeying the rules and straying off-topic !Manoverboard wrote: 10 Aug 2017, 16:38![]()

At the moment it claims our annual bill will be £34.60. I'll go with that!

The problem is many customers will believe their summer readings, but once winter kicks in then the complaints will escalate.

Re: The Children's Off Topic Thread
Yes it can give a rosy picture if you don't understand its limitations.
The worst thing about having it fitted was the relatively limited knowledge on the gas aspect of the fitter, who was originally trained as an electrician. Before he fitted the meters he had to check our appliances. He took one look at our gas flue and said "that's too close to an opening window, I might have to cap your gas off".
After a bit of debate, in which I indicated that would not be an acceptable outcome of the day, he added "it would be okay if it was a combi."
I asked what difference that would make. He said "because they're fan assisted". I then pointed out that although our boiler wasn't a combi it was indeed fan assisted. "Oh is it", he said. "In that case it's okay".
Had I not asked the "what difference would that make" question we might have been having a very different conversation this morning!
BTW my estimated annual consumption has now gone up to £37.40. I may have to turn this PC off sharpish.

I'd be more concerned about cutting down kettle use
Someone told me once that if you leave you TV on standby all the time it uses as much power as if it was on. How much truth there is in that I don't know.
