Thank you kind sirMervyn and Trish wrote: 22 Aug 2017, 10:30BBC staff get BBC pensions. For which they pay contributions. And they earn very ordinary salaries.
Freelances/self employed, as in any industry, are responsible for their own tax and pension arrangements.

Re: The Children's Off Topic Thread
The Wail are, as ever, wonderfully selective.
The average BBC salary is well below £50,000, and bear in mind the majority work in the London area and are qualified to graduate level. And that's the average so allowing for the few on top whack the average for the mere mortals is below that. For most there are no company cars and no expense accounts. A typical journalist or producer gets around £35,000. So quite a lot less than the tube driver who takes them to work.
And a two thirds salary pension only came after 40 years in post. So a long way below 5 figures! I know mine is. If it wasn't for savings, our state pensions and a couple of inheritances we wouldn't be cruising that's for sure!
Gold plated pension? Well yes it was a final salary pension until a few years ago, as were most half decent company pensions. But like others it is no longer.

I now ask for a quote for the holiday price with the compo already deducted from the total. Saves a lot of time.

Re: The Children's Off Topic Thread
Is the the neighbour who pops round for afters every Sunday ?!
Mine didn't produce too many this year - just ate the last one yesterday. I usually like to have enough to stew and freeze a few tubs but sadly not this time - they can be a bit sporadic depending on the weather conditions at pollination time

This is the first time for a few years his tree has produced so many plums - his pear tree did quite well too but I don't like pears so pass them on to my mother.
