A good read

Unread post by anneed »

I'm currently reading The Woman in Cabin 10, a silly but very readable thriller set on a cruise ship. The author Ruth Ware has cheekily named her ship Aurora although it's definitely not our P&O favourite! I wondered if any of you could recommend a good cruise-related read to pack in your suitcase.

For a bit of light relief, I am currently wading through the "Murder on the....." series by Conrad Allen. The series starts with "Murder on the Lusitania!" and all are set on a cruise liner in the pre First World War period. Whilst they are a bit light and frothy and may not be everyone's cup of tea, they do evoke a feeling of cruising in the 1910's with some good period detail which we cruising aficionados may find interesting

Conrad Allen is a pseudonym used by Keith Miles whom many will also know as Edward Marston for his popular "Railway Detective" series

I assume you will have already read "Here Come the Girls" by Milly Johnson - definitely P&O ship, probably Azura. She even thanks the P&O crew at the end. It's a great read for a holiday. There is a sort of follow up - "Here Come the Boys" but it's shorter and based on another of Milly Johnson's experiences, wont' spoil the plot if you haven't read it.

I follow Milly Johnson on Twitter, and she is a big fan of cruising, especially with P&O.

Now you mention it, I do remember reading Here Come The Girls. It got a mention in P&O's magazine so I ordered it at my local library. I do that a lot with books that get a good press review. Keeps the library going and saves me a fortune (and I guess the authors are happy if their work does well in the library league tables).

There is Terry Waite's 'Voyage of the Golden Handshake'

Also just came across 'Stars, Staterooms & Stowaways' by Gary Glading - exP&O cruise director.

There are also the Ben Macfarlane books about his work as a ship's doctor.

All light & suitable to fall asleep with....& wake up & carry on again!
