Re: Current Affairs
I respect what Ray is saying and agree wholeheartedly with Mob. It does not matter whether you are in a minority or not, if you feel the need to express an opinion by all means do so, but also be prepared to be challenged if somebody disagrees with you. I thought that was what debate was all about.

Re: Current Affairs
I have a suggestion which might help Gill and others. Brexit is possibly the most divisive topic of our generation. Some want to discuss it, others find it uncomfortable. And other current affairs issues are available.Gill W wrote: 17 Oct 2017, 15:55I think that's the problem - the majority are comfortable in their surroundings with like minded people and can't or won't use a bit of imagination how awkward it feels for the few with a different opinion.oldbluefox wrote: 17 Oct 2017, 15:21Why would Mob go onto another football club's forum? It doesn't make sense. I have just looked and there are 18 active topics on CC so if one of them upsets you what is wrong with the other 17 when there is also the option of opening your own topic? I don't understand.
Surprised at your final comment considering you said earlier "I don't want to dig it all up again........." but your sarcasm hasn't been wasted.![]()
I only brought it up again as someone was so happy about being in a huge majority.
However, I'm in the minority again, so I'll leave you to it
So I am starting a specific Brexit topic. Those who wish to fight it out can go there.
I then sugggest that voluntarily, with a kick from the Mods if necessary, we leave this thread for currrent affairs other than Brexit and don't post about Brexit anywhere inappropriate?
Then those who wish to can continue with pistols at dawn. And others like Gill who wish to avoid Brexit can continue to enjoy the forum without nasty surprises.

Yes, and we can use this thread to talk about the news of the day.
Todays news was inflation rising, but that was because of Brexit, so not that.
The next item was hate crime rising, bother, that was because of Brexit too.
Then there was the OECD getting on our case because of, oh yeah maybe not talk about that here now either.

Re: Current Affairs
I have no problems with people who have different views to me, and who wish to debate their different views.
I don't expect everyone to agree with me
I don't want to ignore or avoid Brexit - it's impossible to ignore as it will affect us for generations to come. I'm comfortable discussing it when I want to.
I don't mind being challenged about my opinions.
I expect people to be sincere with their views
My point was attitude.

I brought the subject up, because I thought the above post was very devisive, as if you were one big group, and anybody that didn't agree with you was an outsider. That is what makes me feel uncomfortable.towny44 wrote: 13 Oct 2017, 22:48I really don't know why we keep discussing this with Jack, he is after all only one and we are many, if not quite 27.![]()

You are absolutely right Gill.

Re: Current Affairs
Yes, still all in one piece, thanks, obf. Trees down all over the place, a few bits of roof felt flapping and the last of the bedding plants completely ravaged but no damage to life and limb. Wouldn't want a wind like that every week, though, and we only caught the edge of it. Probably better than floods, though, wasn't it?oldbluefox wrote: 17 Oct 2017, 15:27Did everybody come out of last night's storms unscathed? We had a couple of plant pots blown over, the bird feeders were on the ground and my wife's cyclamen had all their heads blown off just leaving stalks but apart from that no further damage and all the leaves are now piled in a nice tidy heap by the back gate. It was a truly wild night up here as Ophelia passed through, and it is still windy but not anywhere near as bad as it was. Unfortunately there are lots of places nearby which had electricity supplies cut off so I suppose we were fortunate and the trees around us will have broken the wind up.

No chance, not on this Board while I am a Mod.
Any commonality of opinion is purely coincidental, it is not and will never be by design or orchestration.
In your quoted example Towny was just jesting with Jack and tossing in a EU slant along the way with his response, I would be amazed if Jack was offended in any way.

I have an even better suggestion if you don't like something or the tone/attitude etc then scroll on by or if you do have something to contribute then say so and stand up and be counted, it really doesn't matter whether someone agrees with you or not at the end of the day it is only a forum and we will all always have different views about everything from smoking to dress codes to children, we don't have to be part of the majority to have our say nor do we have to elect to be offended, goodness as a smoker if I got offended every time the ASB started I'd have left here a long time ago and yes it also puts me in the 'minority' but so what !!

Re: Current Affairs
Gill, sorry you felt that way. But you needed to read my post in conjunction with those from Jack where he regularly points out that the the UK is only one vs the other EU 27, and thus we should accept our weak position.Gill W wrote: 18 Oct 2017, 09:16I have no problems with people who have different views to me, and who wish to debate their different views.

My post I felt was a rather tongue in cheek put down of Jacks similar situation, however he continues to be be prepared to fight his corner and not shy away from trying to convince us of our folly.

Re: Current Affairs
I took towny's post in the manner in which it was intended. You only have to look at the emoticons at the end to see where he was coming from. I doubt Jack would be offended and if he was the matter would have been rectified.
Does it really matter if somebody agrees with you or not but I'm not an 'us and them' person so perhaps you are right. I don't understand.
But smokers!!! That's a different matter altogether.

Call the smoking police
I must admit DQ that although I quit many years ago (smug), I still quite fancy one occasionally.
Particularly if sitting in a café in a nice Plaza in Barcelona.
Café con leche and a fag. What could be better?
Mrs Barney has been known to have the odd crafty one when out socialising but fortunately has never started again.
I wonder how folk afford it these days. I believe it's about six quid a packet now.

Re: Current Affairs
Technically I have never given up. I just made a decision to refuse the next cigarette. However I did enjoy a smoke. I found it relaxing especially after a nice meal and those are the times when I could happily have one. However that was 35 years ago so I doubt I will start again especially seeing how expensive they are.
The downside of quitting? I put on about a stone in weight, probably because I substituted chocolate for fags!!!

If God had meant you to smoke he would have given you a chimney!!!
These vaping things amuse me. All you can see is a great white cloud around whoever is sucking on the thing. It's nothing like a proper fag. You don't see men with a fag stuck to the corner of their mouth and about 2" of ash waiting to fall off. (How long until someone says 'Oh, how northern!!!).
