Equifax hack

Unread post by Ranchi »

Anyone else got a letter regarding the cyber attack of Equifax in the US. Apparently data from around 400000 UK ‘customers’ was compromised. In my case the data theft involved Name, DoB & phone number. Other customers have had email addresses & Equifax passwords accessed.
The company have offered several of their products that you can use free of charge to help protect affected customers.
It appears the hack took place in May. Seems a bit of a delay in letting us know.

That’s my point exactly, Meg. As I understand it there is a one time use code on my letter which enables me to sign up to 2 years of Equifax Protect. It also appears that different letters have been set out: in my case, it states that dob, telephone no. & name have been taken; others have mentioned passwords, driving licence details, secret security question.
My concern is that if you use your code and go into the Equifax Protect system then they will ask for more details ( eg drivers licence details) which I am fairly certain I have not given to anyone for many years. Until I use the log in code I won’t know what is required.
There is very little in the press about this and most of the online stuff is US based, where the data theft was on a much greater scale.
