We leave ours in the ground. Still come up year after year. Mind you they are planted out the front where they get all the sun and are fairly protected.

It's not so much the cold that does them, but the wet so you should be OK with lower rainfall over there

To be fair it's the first rain (at least while I've been awake) we've had for a couple of weeks but it does mean no day out for our dog this week.

She is definitely not dry clean only
