An interesting article attached for anyone interested

https://www.politico.eu/article/do-eu27 ... -clearing/

It appears that the EU money people are getting a little hesitant about Euro clearing being taken 'in house' because of the risks.

It also appears that IF the EU removes Euro clearing from London, by default, they will also have to remove it from New York and Singapore as neither are clearly in the EU and under the ECJ.

The reasons why the City of London is the world’s financial capital are only indirectly linked to the UK’s membership of the EU.
More importantly, the Euro is a freely-convertible reserve currency. In fact it is the world’s second biggest reserve currency.
The EU cannot force Euro clearing to relocate to EU territory without trashing the currency’s free convertibility.
EU protectionism could not plausibly target London without also targeting New York, Singapore, and all those other global financial centres which happen to be outside the jurisdiction of the ECJ.
In effect THEY are proposing capital controls.
These would turn the Euro into something like the Indian rupee, very different from the hubris about ‘rivalling the US dollar’ spoken about when the monetary union experiment was launched.

Who will win this one?
The Politicians or the Money Men.

Jack, I cannot see the UK Govt getting this agreed within the Conservative party never mind parliament or the country at large. So I can only assume this to be wishful thinking by RTE.

Let's hope this is true and the first step to a united Ireland.

They are very welcome to the north as far as I'm concerned.

It should have been done years ago.

Meanwhile more Lies from the hard remain camp.

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/20 ... -winemaker

I was on a tour of this vineyard just a few months ago and the tour guide said exactly the opposite to us.

Chapel Down have used the same team for many years and they are of varying nationalities. They come in on short term contracts to trim and then return to pick. They are experts in their field and travel the world doing this. They are never employed, they are contractors.
I very specifically asked if leaving the EU would make any difference and the guide replied no. They may have a bit of additional administration but they won't starve.

They just won't give it up will they.
It's really quite embarrassing.

Just imagine if the Remoaners put the same effort into improving things instead of trying to wreck our country.
Life would be so much better for all.

Call me naive if you must but if Britons are going "starve" because there are no EU migrants to pick fruit (never knew we relied on fruit to prevent starvation - but that's another discussion) then why do we not divert those who are out of work and in receipt of taxpayer's benefits to do the fruit picking? After all if the country is starving then it must merit being classed as a "National Emergency".

You'll love this one then!

Nicola Sturgeon @NicolaSturgeon
If one part of UK can retain regulatory alignment with EU and effectively stay in the single market (which is the right solution for Northern Ireland) there is surely no good practical reason why others can’t.

... and they are all coming out of the woodwork now!

@MayorofLondon
Huge ramifications for London if Theresa May has conceded that it's possible for part of the UK to remain within the single market & customs union after Brexit. Londoners overwhelmingly voted to remain in the EU and a similar deal here could protect tens of thousands of jobs.

Jack, as I said earlier in post #259, there is no way that your interpretation of the NI solution will ever get the green light from the Conservative party or its Govt.; unless there are some major concessions from the EU that would turn the Brexit deal into a lottery win for the UK, sorry England. 8-)

Looks like we are all staying in the single market or there's to be a general election, when we stay in the single market under a Labour government.

Bliar promised a referendum and was returned to No 10 as a consequence. He then made a lame excuse to deny the British people by saying the Treaty of Lisbon had eliminated the need.
Look who has raised his creepy little head this morning!!!!
I'm surprised anybody believes two words this character strings together.

To be honest I didn't really understand the question!
I was under the impression that Theresa May was the leader of the Conservative party and Prime Minister, leader of our government. Todays antics prove she is neither in anything but name.
"Concessions from the EU"? yes, we have had a lot of them during the negotiations haven't we?
Is that on script? If not let me know.
