Re: Nearly Christmas!
i hope you go gill and have a wonderful time with your family, good luck with your appointment tomorrowGillD46 wrote: 20 Nov 2017, 17:22Our close, which is a little bigger than yours gilly, makes an effort and most houses light their front lawn trees and/or shrubs so it looks lovely. We plan to try and put our lights out this weekend, we’re late this year because of my heart investigations, so I have found it hard to get motivated.
We won’t be at home for Christmas this year, at least we shouldn't be, health permitting, which I have mixed feelings about. It will be lovely to spend it with daughter no 2 and her family, including our delightful 2 year old grand-daughter, but because our daughter’s out-laws will be there, it won’t be as relaxed as usual. Indeed it will be crowded. We also have to drive home - London to The Gower - on Boxing Day as we are due to go away to celebrate our Ruby Anniversary on December 28th, but that remains uncertain as well.
So I am trying to get in the mood, and did make two chocolate yule logs today, but as yet not feeling terribly festive.
regards gilly.

Phew! It has taken me two solid days to dress the house for Christmas, but apart from some lights and garlands in the kitchen, it’s all done!

That room full of lights and Christmas garlands, apparently, where you can all sit around the washing up bowl and sing carols

Re: Nearly Christmas!
Jest away, Usually I seem to spend a LOT of time in the kitchen over Christmas, so I like it to be festive.
This year we are away for Christmas and again for new year, so it's nice for our family who WILL be there some of the time.

Re: Nearly Christmas!
Big mistake for us buying M&S milk chocolate biscuits today as we started on them as soon as we got home so will have to buy some more for Christmas.
The three bottles of Brancott Estate Sauvignon Blanc which we bought yesterday in Morrisons (£6 per bottle - bargain) are going to be seriously at risk over the weekend as well.
We really shouldn't buy any food or drink for Christmas until the day before as we have no self control.

Will just be scattering a few 'decs/cards' around to make the house look occupied .. Cunard will be doing all the 'hard work'

Re: Nearly Christmas!
My minimal decorations went up yesterday - we go on Aurora on 3rd January so don't want to have to spend ages taking everything down after Christmas. Have a pre-decorated small tree to put up when John has mended the table I want to put it on - it's a very ancient table that my daughter had purloined and when I went to get it back, I lifted it up and a leg fell off. Mind you we bought the nest of tables on our honeymoon and it's our Ruby Wedding Anniversary in January so it hasn't done so bad. It will seem very odd not having a large tree but I just can't spend the time it takes to get it all up and decorated and then having to take it down and put everything away again. One thing that will come out is the Fairy Doll that has gone on our tree since we were married and before that on my parents' tree starting in about 1966. I was a Student Nurse at Barts in London and I remember buying it from Selfridges when I was living in a very smart Nurses' Home in Bryanston Square so when it was Christmas I used to get off the tube from St. Paul's at Oxford Circus and then walk the length of Oxford Street to see all the Christmas lights back to Bryanston Square. So the Fairy Doll is rather ancient - yes a bit like me! She's in very good condition though, given her age.

Re: Nearly Christmas!
Did you know that it is possible to buy an XMas card with a title of " To the Both of You ".
Brilliant, one can therefore get shot of a card by sending one of these from / to each other .... just saying

Mrs S said she wouldn't mind getting one of the cards from a multi pack she brought. That's saved me making one

It was claimed that the late Gilbert Harding on receiving a card with greetings from one person would add "and Gilbert" and send it on to someone else.
Trouble is these days the stamps cost more than the cards

Paid a £1 today for two sheets of wrapping paper. A POUND
A diabolic liberty. I wouldn't mind so much, but it was only brown.
