Re: Football Thread 2017/18
That they are qb.
Thanks for reminding me !!!
I watched live on IFollow and finished quite depressed.
It was pretty even steven at 1-1 when Parker of the Gills smashed a shot from 25 yards.
An absolute screamer into the top corner ----- only for it not to be awarded.
Neither the ref or the lino where aware that it was in and clearly over the line.
It hit the underside of the bar, down on to the pole holding the netting down inside the goal, and back out again.
Every Gills player celebrated and to be honest, even Oxford couldn't believe it wasn't allowed.
But the ref said no !
So, the match is in the last minute and the commentator says that it looks like penalties, then an Oxford player hit a decent shot that our keeper really should have saved, so game over.
From the kick off (now well overtime) we were given a free kick 20 yards out.
Gills 18 year old Oldaker steps up and .... clips the bar.
I was cross right up 'till I went to bed and then woke up cross.
Ridiculous for such a Mickey Mouse trophy.
As for Foxy's point, Premier under 21's were invited to give real game experience to their future stars.
The unfortunate reality is that most were murdered by league one and two sides with only three teams, Leicester, Swansea and West Ham getting through to the knock out stages.
Now, only Leicester remain.
We had Reading in our group so played our youngsters against theirs and won 7-5
Yes, really ! 7-5
I expect most Premier and Championship clubs will pass next season. It was a bit embarrassing for them.

Update to my last post !!
Chelsea are now through.
They played Batshuayi, who they paid £33 million for.
Nothing like a level playing field, is there
The irony is that many Prem. clubs called for this to blood their youngsters and then played many established over age players.
Leicester played six

I agree I disagree with what is happening. It should only be open, as it was originally intended for League 1 and 2 clubs. It wouldn't be so bad if they were all UK born players as opposed to foreign imports.

I got to dreaming thinking about our next six games.
If by some great fortune the Hornets were able to beat Burnley, Crystal Palace, Huddersfield, Brighton, Leicester and Swansea we would add 18 points to our present total of 22 .... which equals the target of 40 points before the end of 2017

I have to agree it all looks do-able, but I do hope you fall short by 3 points around game 3.Manoverboard wrote: 07 Dec 2017, 14:57I got to dreaming thinking about our next six games.

You're getting fussy. I'd be happy with 14 points as would Palace, West Ham and Swansea. Be nice if the Hornets could go and do a Leicester but I think we did it when all the big boys were having a sleep.

Well that dream was quickly extinguished, you can have a revival next week, but not the week after.Manoverboard wrote: 07 Dec 2017, 14:57I got to dreaming thinking about our next six games.

Today the result was a travesty, we should have won by 6 or 7, Tom Ince should have had a hat trick, but I will happily settle for the 3 points.

My dream deffo didn't include a ref who would red card one of our lot, biased of course but I expect it to be rescinded sometime tomorrow ... I also expect a 4 match ban for Zaha for his two penalty dives.

Your dream has now turned into a nightmare!!!! Never mind with our away record of only scoring in one away game so far all you need is to score one and you could be back on the winning trail.towny44 wrote: 09 Dec 2017, 22:46Well that dream was quickly extinguished, you can have a revival next week, but not the week after.Manoverboard wrote: 07 Dec 2017, 14:57I got to dreaming thinking about our next six games.

What happened Mob? Three minutes to go, winning 1-0 you get one man sent off and concede two goals against a team in the bottom three. Mind you I know what it feels like to have victory snatched away at the last minute.
Pleased to see Burnley up there mixing it with the big boys.
Anybody scoring against Manu, please don't celebrate. A simple handshake will suffice otherwise Jose gets upset.

Dear oh dear oh dear ... we should have been three up by half time but we didn't take our chances, Deeney and Richarlison both missing absolute sitters. One goal just isn't enough .... in spite of the suggestion to the contrary from a Terrier of note.
ps ... we do however hope to get back to winning ways come Saturday

Mob's lot must be getting used to playing with 10 men by now. Did Deeney deserve to be sent off?

Re: Football Thread 2017/18
It was borderline but it was 2 footed from behind and he was going down, however the ref made up for it by giving our captain a very harsh 2nd yellow, so both sides ended up with 10 men.oldbluefox wrote: 16 Dec 2017, 23:22Mob's lot must be getting used to playing with 10 men by now.
