I can thoroughly recommend joining a walking group.
We joined one over twenty years ago when we returned from Germany and moved into a new town where we knew nobody. It met every week and it really did make a difference both in terms of keeping up our fitness levels and in meeting others and making true friends. The beauty of a walking group is that you don't need to plan your walk, just turn up and somebody else will lead and worry about getting back. All you need do is follow and enjoy the scenery. It's amazing the places you visit, some amazing places you never knew existed. Walking throughout the year you come to appreciate the seasons in all their glory.
Although we have moved away we are still in touch and now lead walks for them when they are up our way.
I always say you enjoy a walk twice. Once when you are out in the fresh air and once when you get home when you have a hot shower and settle down for the evening, tired but totally chilled out.
Highly recommended.

Keep up the good work JenniC - it is encouraging me to start walking more. Before we moved just over 3 weeks ago we used to walk to town everyday just for the exercise. Since moving, we seem to have used the car nearly every day either to get to the DIY store or to take rubbish etc up the dump. Unfortunately,I have therefore put on 3lbs in 3 weeks through not walking anywhere. You will find you not only get fit but you will probably lose weight so long as you don't stop off for too many drinks and cakes. Good luck.

Walking definitely helps weight loss. I have been walking 3-4 miles a day the last year or so and without changng my eating habits at all, I have lost well over a stone.

What a great lot you are.. Keeping me motivated and how many of you walk already - brilliant... GillD46 3-4 miles a day.. Not surprised living on the Gower as you do.. Love it there... My ex-boss lived on a farm near Three Cliffs Bay had a wonderful holiday there when the kids were younger... Stayed in a caravan on his farm... Wonderful memories :D

It's not a bad walk up and you'll not really thinking about the climb as you'll be taking in the terrific views....and dodging the troll cars!
One day P&O will cruise out of the north.....

Only 2-3 miles from us, a delightful spot. Been able to sit out in the warm sunshine this afternoon on our new garden sofas - until a hailstorm arrived out of the almost cloudless sky!!!!! Now where did that come from?
