We had a hill like that when we lived in Macclesfield - ish.

Had a word with the Council and they provided a large yellow metal bin ( near the top of the hill ) that hinged open to reveal the gritting sand, we collectively threw it on the road as required. They also topped it up each year, when we had seriously cold weather the sand /salt mix used to freeze so hacking the large lumps out of the bin and breaking them up was quite hard work.

It worked well for us.

Yes we have one of those bins now. So one of the neighbours has been out shovelling. Rather stupidly it's at the bottom of the hill, not on the steep bit!

We used to have a nurse lived in our road and she managed to convince them to grit so she could get to work. But sadly she's moved.

We tried to go out this morning but the car couldn't get up the hill.
It's like an ice rink! My husband and neighbour have gone out to spread grit, shall try again after lunch.
Just as well it's next Thursday that we have to pick up our son from the airport.

They are very discreet and do deliver late when 'adult' parcels are involved.......so I'm told

And the plain brown paper is excellent

I generally find the brown paper is scrunched up acting as padding inside a box which is way too big for the parcel.
