How big is yours ... ( XMas Tree ) ?

Unread post by Onelife »

Well l've got a whooper and my wife is delighted...

....I am of course referring to the size of our Christmas tree

As it is the first year in our new house we/she decided that we would have a proper krimble tree which is now standing 7ft tall in our lounge (it would have been taller but l had to cut 6in off to accommodate the fairy)

My preference would have been our artificial tree but my wife insisted we fork out £55 for the tree and £25 for the stand....

So are you going artificial or real this christmas.....Oh! And do you like big ones?

5 feet artificial. But a previous 4 feet real one in a pot is now 20 feet in the garden where we planted it after three years coming in and out in the pot.

We prefer ' proper ' trees; we get them from a wooden forest-tree shoppe in the middle of a huge forest and they have a Santa and real live reindeers ... wonderfully shaped trees, ditto the reindeers but less so Santa.

ps ... Our main tree sits in the Garden Room and is 6 foot high overall.

pps ... Welcome to your new home OL, albeit belatedly, is it in Shropshire ?

ppps ... Why did the Fairy want 6 inches from the top of the tree .... just asking

Usually always a real tree. This year as we are away for Christmas itself and then going on the Aurora cruise in January I've opted for a small, ready decorated tree, 4ft. It came in two pieces with heavy pot to put it in and decorations, baubles, berries etc. already attached - brilliant. Never had less trouble putting up a tree. It's stood on a table where the real tree would usually go. Am really missing the real tree. My brother is dropping in later this morning and I can hear the comments already! Next year, definitely a real tree. These days I usually go and choose and buy it myself and then John goes and collects it in his van. He's never, in nearly 40 years of married life, been able to understand how someone can be so finicky about choosing a tree, so it's eaier and less fraught if I do it on my own!

7ft tree in the lounge. Artificial but you wouldn't think it to look at it. Had it years and still looks good.

6ft in the dining room bay window. Again, artificial, and that one does look very artificial. But as it was a freebie from Mr Tesmo last year I ain't complaining.

Hi Mob....Its been a long ttime coming but we did finally make it to Shropshire.....only a stones throw from Ludlow race course  :)

As for the fairy......she would have had a stiff neck had l not cut 6 inches from the tree.

Hope you and yours are keeping well

Regards

Always enjoyed going with the children to dig up our tree from one of the farms but as they grew older they no longer wanted the pleasure of the cold, the wet and the itching needles, so it was to be artificial from then on.

7 foot in the conservatory
6 foot in the dining room
3 foot in the sitting room

We do miss the smell of a fresh tree, and when you dig your own you can take care with the roots. once potted up and placed in position and kept well watered, we found very few needles would drop.
Don't worry, be happy

We used to be able to go to a local farm which grew Christmas trees, Norway Spruces from memory. We used to be able to wander around and pick the tree we wanted and one of the workers came and dug it up for us. It was a real family occasion when our girls were small. Now the farm has become a housing estate - and they say it's Progress!

We are a bit Bah Humbug in this house but we have put our 5 ft artificial LED tree up and it changes colour all evening. I enjoy watching it keep changing - probably not good for the eyesight and head aches. It was put up Sunday and will be taken down December 27th - like I said Bah Humbug.

When our son was at primary school about 40 years ago, the school caretaker offered us the tree which had been put up for the school children. It was quite big but I lugged it all the way home as we didn't have a car at that time. We bought some decorations, although money was tight, and put it in a bucket with bricks and earth holding it up. I can't remember if it had a root ball or just a stump but I didn't give a thought to watering it. Unfortunately we also placed it by a radiator so obviously it dried out and lots of needles kept falling off. Once Christmas was over I decided to take it down but managed to hit the radiator as I moved it and nearly every needle fell off and landed on the carpet. It took me days to get all of them out of the carpet. I swore never to have a real tree again after that.
Anyway, I hope you all enjoy your Christmas trees and have a really lovely time. Maureen x
