New Pope
Do any of us really care who the new Pope is? I cannot believe the fuss over this person who rules over paedophile priests, no birth control etc. anti gay people etc.

Well it doesn't interest me but I'm sure there will be other members who will find it most interesting and no doubt be offended by the remarks you have made.lioness wrote:Do any of us really care who the new Pope is? What fuss? If you don't want to read about it in the newspapers, turn the page. A few minutes coverage on the news is hardly fuss. I'm so bored with you pushy atheistslioness wrote:Do any of us really care who the new Pope is? One heck of a lot of people care very deeply - otherwise the programming wouldn't be altered to allow for it.lioness wrote:Do any of us really care who the new Pope is? I cannot believe the fuss over this person who rules over paedophile priests, no birth control etc. anti gay people etc.
I'm not bothered exactly, but was interested to see the announcement. I have now switched off as you should have done immediately if you find it so offensive

Oh dear, was being tongue in cheek - shouldn't have bothered! Nothing offensive in the truth. Let's hope the man can change the ways of the last 1000 years.

I was surprised they chose the new fella so quickly. Maybe the food and drink during Conclave isn't as good as it used to be.

As a Roman Catholic I am celebrating the news that our new Pope has been selected, long may he serve.

Re: New Pope
Well it would be good to think that he could do something about the terrible wrongs that have been done. Abused children, anti-gay - to name a couple. But I suspect it won't be any different. It's interesting that in my young days when I was a Stewardess, we used to buy our birth control pills very cheaply in South America, in countries where apparently birth control isn't allowed? Churches need get into the real world which is very crowded, needs birth control, needs total understanding of gay people, women.
and he's 76 years old??? - Thought they wanted a young-un?

So ... who is the new pope then, I saw the news earlier but no-one had been named at the time.

Pope Francis is an Argentinian.
I respect my faith and find it odd that some try to demoralise their faith, not good that all this bad publicity has had a detrimental effect on the Catholic Church but all faiths are being questioned in this day and age.
Long live the Pope and may he bring new hope to the Church.

Are you referring to the Church or Roman Catholicism? There is a difference.lioness wrote:Churches need get into the real world which is very crowded, needs birth control, needs total understanding of gay people, women.

Re: New Pope
I watched the process with interest but as an outsider of this faith.
The most fascinating part for me was to discover that he has seemingly been selected as a reformer but one who will clean up the corruption rather than to change the stance on religious issues or matters affecting the man, or woman, in the street

On FB there's lots of comments on how the new Pope looks like Jim Bowen

I was lucky enough to see Pope Benedict in Hyde Park whilst tens of thousands had to wait on the London roadsides to get a glimpse.

Re: New Pope
Meg ... I accept that it needs sorting out but it just didn't seem to me that it needed a Pope with a particular skill set to achieve it.Meg 50 wrote:maybe Moby, but there won't be lot of credibility if their house isn't in order....
In my book any Pope could do it if he so wished unless by inference all the other candidates condone the money laundering for the MOB and support the jobs for the boys type culture in the inner sanctum.

Alan, I was referring to the Catholic church. The other lot don't seem to mind gay people, are not against birth control and do have women clergy. I cannot understand them still not allowing birth control when there are millions living in poverty with too many children. I heard on radio 4 this morning that 40% of South Americans use contraception anyway. So I guess they just don't take any notice.
