Whosit with oysters ?

Unread post by Onelife »

I was watching a program the other night where they were salivating about oysters! Now l've never tried this supposed delicacy from the sea but from what l can see most who try them just stick them in their gobs as "swallow" them.

Can't see the point in doing this if you ain't gonna chew the ugly looking things?....ok' so there may be some nutritional value once inside but can someone enlighten me as to why most who try them swallow and not chew?

Did you happen to notice that a dash of lemon is squirted over the wee beestie before it is swallowed, this is to ensure that they are still alive at the point of departure.

Chewing is only in order if one has them in a Northumbrian Steak 'n' Oyster Pie

Only ever had them once when on a business trip in Rouen, we shared a seafood platter which was mainly oysters, prawns and langoustine on a bed of ice. Squeeze of lemon on one, tip your head back and pour it down your throat, a sort of salty tastelessness, but I suffered no ill effects, probably because most of what I ate was well seasoned in wine and spirits.
