Onelife, Child benefit is no longer universal and has not been since 2013, any family where a parent earns more than £50,000pa starts to have their benefit reduced and when their income hits £60,000pa they receive no benefit.
However back to the threads main issue, I am unwilling to pay more money in until the way we operate the NHS is modified, and we see people acting more responsibly in their demands from the NHS, boozers, drug adicts, smokers, obese and general misfit idiots should not expect the NHS to sort out their lifestyle choices. Once that is sorted then if the NHS still needs more I will willingly pay extra.

Hi towny.....l stand corrected.

So a couple can have a joint annual income of £99,998 and still be eligible for full child bennifit......not exactly on the breadline is it?

I'm all for keeping children out of poverty but l can't understand why this lodicrous 'give away' is alowd to continue when the monies saved could be put to better use....such as our NHS.

Regards

Keith

I tend to agree with you Onelife. A family I know, middle income just about, used to give their family allowance to their two children as pocket money!!! It does beg the question doesn't it?

If, once the re-education of prospective patients has been completed, and only those in dire need of emergency care are seen in A&E; and the savings that I guess will accrue here have been diverted to social care, so that bed blocking is no longer a problem; then and only then if the NHS boffins can prove they need more money will I agree to further funding.
The public sector is in my view still grossly overstaffed, I would really like to know how many local govt. jobs have been eliminated since the start of the supposed austerity squeeze. If this is not well into double digit percentage reductions then the axe needs to fall on the chief executives, until they can find someone who is prepared to trim out the fat and learn to operate with private sector staffing levels.

for want of stirring it even further what about stopping the child benefit going abroad..especially when they are probably not even checking whether the children even exist!!.

Don't worry Stephen. So long as their 12 mothers aren't earning too much you'll be okay.
