I have long held the belief that a house divided against itself cannot prosper. If I have got that quotation wrong - apologies. Apologies also to whoever first came up with it - it is certainly not one of my own original thoughts.
However - one is certain ...... we all are temporary residents on planet earth, and as such it would be a grand day out indeed if there could be a painless bloodless 'levelling' or 'equalising' of the belief side of people's existance. Then perhaps nobody could call anyone else 'in a heap' for being gay or black or white or muslim or catholic or whatever.
Wouldn't it be lovely to have no labels or categories, just for everyone to be members of the residency of planet earth; and for people to quietly and peacefully be allowed to go about their lives living as they wish to do - taking full responsibility for the decisions that they make to form their lives?
So, if someone wants to be a gay person in a gay relationship - live and let live, let them get on with it. If someone wants to have an abortion - live and let live - let them get on with it. Maybe even be supportive.
No man is an island (another quote, forgotten who originated it), each and every one of us may well need and appreciate support at some point during our residency; and this support (I believe) should be freely given with no strings (such as religion etc) attached. I am not religious, but I will freely assist and support any deserving person I can.
Being gay or having/needing an abortion (for instance) should not be against any law; and the electing of a person to enforce this drudgery and misery onto thousands if not millions of people is in my book simply wrong.
So, instead of having these divides and labels, why can't everyone just simply do their best to ensure that as they tread along the path of life they themselves do their best to leave a good record behind them.
Em
