Yep! An awful lot of dosh but probably no more than what was spent when Her Majesty visited the USA.
Small change when you consider our export market to the USA...nothing wrong with a bit of sucking up if it bennifits our country.

Re: Trumps Visit
We still exported and imported before the visit, so what's changed.
Small change to some, but a bl**dy lot of money to others that could do with it and make good use of it in this country..

Yes Stephen, but you would stop a lot of high ranking officials having a free holiday....governments have never been good when it comes to those in real need.Stephen wrote: 12 Jul 2018, 19:54We still exported and imported before the visit, so what's changed.
Because there are lots of women who would like to cut his balls off and export them back to the USA for one reason![]()

Stephen, for someone who claims not to pay tips when cruising, you suddenly seem to have developed a social conscience, or do you intend to divert the money to Maldon towers?Stephen wrote: 12 Jul 2018, 19:54We still exported and imported before the visit, so what's changed.

I see the little fat cat Juncker got pi**ed as a fa*t last night going by the way he was helped down the stairs outside and then stumbling around.

Re: Trumps Visit
If he were an alcoholic surely he would hide his drunkenness better, any alcoholic I have come across can hold his liquor far better than Juncker, perhaps he is a bit like me one drink too many and I can stagger around for England. But if so, he ought to know better than to drink as much as he does, especially as a "supposed" serious politician, albeit an unelected one.Stephen wrote: 13 Jul 2018, 07:58I see the little fat cat Juncker got pi**ed as a fa*t last night going by the way he was helped down the stairs outside and then stumbling around.

Re: Trumps Visit
Just imagine if Trump did anything like Juncker did at a world gathering . The press would crucify him, and rightly so.
I personally don't have an issue with the POTUS coming here, no matter who it is.
They are a biggest trade partner and greatest ally.
Trump is unique in the point that he clearly is not a trained politician and actually answers questions that are put to him.
Ver rare these days.
If we are honest, we are all a bit sexist and we are all a bit racist.
It's just human nature.
I have an Indian friend who was disowned by her family for marrying a black guy. It's not right, but that's the way it is.
I'd just let these demonstrators get on with it. He clearly isn't bothered either way.
He'll be gone and they can move on to their next crusade.
As for the policing cost, well I expect a lot of that is because of the demos.
Those same people will be demonstrating next month because there is no money.

Re: Trumps Visit
Funniest thing I've seen in ages was the intro by comedian Marek Larwood. He comes on stage and says "give me a cheer if you hate Americans (loud cheer) then he says "give me a cheer if you hate Afro Americans (total silence) . Can you imagine the Trump abuse if he wasn't white. Nah. Me neither.

Trump us certainly a "Marmite" character. You love him or loathe him.
Interesting to see Comrade Corbyn in the weekend rent-a-mob protest
If, heaven forbid, he should ever become PM I wonder what sort of relationship he would have with Trump who, I suspect, never forgets and never forgives.

Re: Trumps Visit
The visit is now over and the world did not end just because Trump, in his role as POTUS, got to visit the Queen and was wined and dined at Blenheim Palace.
He certainly has some divisive views, but on the other hand some of what he says, especially about TMs Brexit proposal, do find favour with a lot of people, myself included.

Re: Trumps Visit
He certainly doesn't have much in the way of presidential diplomacy but the American people voted for change and only time will tell whether or not he can deliver.
My personal feeling is that every now and then the political establishments need someone like Trump who may not be the most gifted when it comes to delivering on the world stage, however, behind his rambling statements there are generally some thought provoking issues that need addressing.....l like marmite but l won't be inviting him round for breakfast.....my wife would poison him.

I never thought I would say this but I'd rather have Trump negotiating for us in Brexit than our PM. Don't like the latest statement from her - to me it confirms she's a remainer.

Oh hear hear! He'd have asked for far more than he expected to get, they'd have offered less, and we'd probably have ended up with a reasonably satisfactory solution for the majority.CaroleF wrote: 15 Jul 2018, 12:01I never thought I would say this but I'd rather have Trump negotiating for us in Brexit than our PM. Re: Trumps Visit
The problem with Trump is that he is an "ideas" man. He will come up with an idea, make a lot of noise about it and then loose interest and move on to the next idea leaving other people to pick up the pieces, and if they do not do the job they way he thinks that it should be done he sacks them - that is if he can remember who they are!

Re: Trumps Visit
I sense a certain amount of hypocrisy when dealing with Trump. Other American presidents have had their skeletons in the cupboard, their faults, their infidelities but, for some reason, they were forgiven or the issues were ignored. Trump does have an unfortunate manner which doesn't make him obviously endearing but I do like his direct style and had he been negotiating Brexit I think we would have had a deal by now. It would more than likely have been a rough ride but he seems to know what he wants and sets out to get it. Much of what he promised to the American people he is now delivering.
I was taught to be cautious

Well, that'll teach him.
The good people of Barnstaple came out on mass (about 30) to let know that the POTUS was not welcome in North Devon.
We have a stage of The Tour of Britain cycling finishing in Barnstaple in September.
It will be rammed.
