Re: Football
If I remember rightly, Southampton have a past record in getting rid of decent managers otherwise we wouldn't have a certain N Pearson.

MOB, Watford is the only team whose players arrive with violin cases under their arms.

Re: Football
Nigel Adkins had the best record at Southampton since the late 1800s - far better than Lawrie McMenemy!! The Italian has 'seen the glory' and forgotten the hard work that Adkins has put in - long may he fail - sorry to the Saints supporters, but having a 'rich' owner often means that the club goes to sh*t.

Re: Football
I like NA a lot from his time at Scunthorpe. At Southampton he's got back to back promotions and was starting to do a reasonable job in the Premier League. He is a funny, clever, modest guy who I doubt will be out of a job for long.
One day P&O will cruise out of the north.....

Re: Football
Must say I agree with all the sentiments expressed about Nigel Adkins, dunno about having owners with money though, if it wasn't for Marcus Leibar & his family we would have disappeared. This chairman is on some sort of ego trip I think.

Re: Football
I never shed too many tears of sympathy for sacked managers though, especially when I look at the amount of compensation they receive. And if they are any good it's not long before they find another club.
Not sure whether Nigel Adkins will go to Blackpool though. They are renowned for not paying a great deal either on wages or on new players. Steve Thompson has done a great job as assistant coach under several managers from Simon Grayson onwards, which has coincided with their rise to the Prem and I am surprised he has not been given the job permanently.

I'm hoping he might come to Huddersfield, though we would have to sack Grayson first, he almost came once before but then we got Lee Clark.paultheeagle wrote:Mr Adkins won't be with out a club for long.....(Blackpool, maybe)

Possibly Grayson will fall on his sword after 12 league games without a win...but somehow I doubt it!

Re: Football
Do you want to borrow some more of our lads?
I doubt they will sack Grayson. You're pretty well established now in the Championship so they may stick with him and look to build for next season.

Don't need any lads. No doubt your ladies team would perform better than our current shambles. Are they available (and cheap)??oldbluefox wrote:Do you want to borrow some more of our lads?

Re: Football
We had some cheerleaders for our game against you. They're lousy footballers but they'd add a few thousand to the gate.
Cheer up - you're just going through a bad patch. It's about time Cardiff and MOB's mob went through one as well. I see Palace are struggling a bit too at the moment. Thankfully we have had ours and hopefully we don't have another one.

Re: Football
I've always had a soft spot for Liverpool. In the 70's and 80's (when they were famous!!!) I used to write to them from Germany to ask if they would sign a football for us if we sent them a ball as a prize in our School Fair. They always did whereas other teams turned us down.
It spoke volumes for the club.
Since then I have always kept a weather eye on them.
Aw right aaarr kid.

Re: Football
They still do things like that Foxy (despite having won the European Cup/Champions League 5 times
)
A couple of years ago Mark had a patient who was a die hard Liverpool fan and a season ticket holder, who due to his condition (sadly incurable and he was only a young man) was unable to go to many matches. Mark contacted the club to explain the patient's condition expecting to get the brush off, what he got was a card and ball signed by all of the players and an invite to the director's box for a match.
To say the patient was over the moon was an understatement!
