Whilst l would agree that the guardian of this kid was totally irresponsible allowing him to do this, however, take the guardian out of the picture and all you are probably left with is a street wise kid being a little inquisitive...l did a lot worse things when l was a kid.
Btw....my tin hat is made of steel.

Hi Sir Merv,
Unless the kid is blind, deaf and dumb l think the chances of him getting decapitated are slim in the extreme. Clearly not something a responsible guardian would be allowing their child to do however.
I wonder if a photo of kids making their own barreled raft crossing a lake would have got as much attention? More kids are killed each year due to these kinds of adventurous play than ever have been killed doing what this child did.....you can't wrap them up in cotton wool, and for the millions of kids who do get away with it, the better, more rounded people they become imo.
Better take a few chances in life than sitting behind a game console 24/7.

Yes, but while they are still a child you have a moral responsibility to keep them safe. That sort of behaviour is just not acceptable, let alone life threatening. The child and the parent/guardian need educating, otherwise, what next, the child will think it's the norm to play around railway lines. And we all know how that usually ends.

As l have said....l don't condone the actions of this guardian, neither do l think it's right to use railway stations as playgrounds. If by highlighting this incident it stops more kids from larking around in such places then all well and good.....sadly It won't!

Re: Some People Should Not Be Parents
When I wor a lad we used to go to the local recreation ground, squeeze through the boundary railings and then head off to an entrance of the tunnel on the main high speed line between London and t' norf. We knew that if we put our head on the rail it was possible to hear the train coming from many miles away so this was done, if all clear the more dopey adventurous within our little group would head into the tunnel to locate a recess and then hide in there until the express train had roared through. Another thing we used to do was to walk end to end along a bridge parapet which crossed two pairs of rails on a local line. We also used to walk unsupervised along the canal and go shooting squirrels in the woods for their tails … note that I'm still here.
When I read about the fuss that this incident has caused it helps me to understand why this is the so called ' Snowflake ' generation.
For me their Dad was there to ensure his son was safe while being inquisitive about railway lines, his was a better option than my way I would suggest.

That's quite impressive Mob.....In our gang it was a right of passage to walk along the parapet of bridges (you should try the one just outside Henley in Arden if you want to get the heart rate beating) Climbing 40ft conker trees was fun, but the thing that did frighten the sh*t out of me was when we attached a length of rope over a fast flowing river then had to shimmy ourselves across it, wouldn't have been so bad if l could swim!!
