Isn't it Wonderful !!
Isn't it wonderful ......
What you can do from the comfort of your armchair .. Sunday morning and I have just renewed my car tax, we book holidays, take out insurance, buy cruise clothes, buy our weekly/monthly groceries and umpteen other things online, of course this doesn't help our High Street or our local business's which is the downside to it.
What do you do .. do you prefer the convenience of the Internet or still prefer to deal face to face with someone and support your local community.

Re: Isn't it Wonderful !!
Hi Jo,
Being a very tight-fisted person (I'm in training for going back to Yorkshire maybe - save now, spend in Betty's later!!!) I always use the internet to ascertain that items I want are in store, in stock and reserved for me before I even get a car off the driveway! I really can't be doing with wasting mileage and parking and time etc heading off to a shop in the hope that they will have what I want when I get there.
However, if the item I want isn't something which I want to see the colour of or try on etc before making the purchase, then I will see if I can get it cheaper online, and hopefully with free delivery too!
It's part of the way I think (judge me as you will) but where expenditure is involved, it's a case of me first - shops etc second!

Hi Jo,
I tax my car, and do my banking on line, but prefer to sort out insurance "face to face" with a well known high st. broker. We also book hotels on line. I have bought clothes, but so often the fit isn't quite right so I haven't done that for a while. However I do buy on line, I think you are pretty safe with electronic goods from Amazon for instance. Groceries..... now that we are retired going to the supermarket is a bit of an "outing".
The OH is a keen e-bayer and has considerable success. The downside to that is that he has to queue at the Post Office to send the parcels
On the whole, I do think the Internet is a wonderful thing

Having watched them load up the trolleys and boxes in Tesco for home delivery no thanks I like to know what I am buying and see it first with regards to fresh vegetables and meat.

Online for many things but like Noddy10 we also select our own meat and veges, albeit not too often from Tesco.
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

The internet is great for some things but I do try to buy from local businesses as much as possible. Times are very tough for them (as I well know)!
Bozza, you were going on about always using your local butcher etc. on the old site, why the change of heart?

Now without a jam jar, I/We find on line shopping a great help in making purchases
. . . and we have never had a single problem so far
For example our faithful Dyson required a new hose
After a short search I made my purchase and it was delivered the very next day
Further more the item was £4 60 cheaper than a local electrical store
Mind you I am very aware of the mushrooming decimation of the High Street shops and find it quite sad

Re: Isn't it Wonderful !!
When I said "we" I should have said "we collectively" there are some things I wouldn't do online, food shopping for one .. I've seen them in Tesco putting orders together ..straight off the shelves and into the box no checking dates or quality
I have used home delivery for wine / champers and have to admit the service is very good
Booking holidays, buying insurance, I will always do the leg work on the internet but then telephone before committing myself, never have a problem buying clothes online, as long as it is a make I am familiar with I know it will fit, my preference though is still to have girly days out and hit the shops

Hiya Hezza,
It's not much of an excuse or reason, but it's been a heck of a couple of months, and it's been a matter of time saving a bit this year. Once I get back into the swing of things (and back from a cruise) I shall happily revert to the local wonderful butcher.
I don't do any food shopping online really, because no matter where I get food from, I like to select it - and anyway it's exercise. We have a system with me walking into the village or town (depending on where I'm going - and then husband drives the car there and we meet up. That way I get a bit of exercise.
Nice to hear from you - trust you are well.

I buy tickets, books, cd's and insurance on line and I do on line banking as well.....I have done food shopping on line in the past......a 'god send' when I couldn't get out because of me bad back a few months ago...I agree that buying food is a bit dodgey....They substituted a pork pie with a toilet cleaner once.....how daft.....Bought our Christmas turkey on line this year though and it was the best tasting turkey I have ever eaten.
I do try and support the local shops as well, when I can.

what has become a boon is buying presies for the part of the family who have emigrated to OZ - choose carefully and find sites that do free delivery all that distance!
