Next Prime Minister?
If as l suspect Theresa May will end up getting stabbed in the back who out of the bookies top contenders would you like to see fill her shoes?
Jeremy Corbyn
Boris Johnson
Sajid Javid
Jacob Rees Mogg
Michael Gove
I would have to do a bit more research on him but as it stands my choice would be Michael Gove.

Re: Next Prime Minister?
I have just joined the conservative party to enable me to have a say in who will be our next party leader, I'm so fed up with the way Teresa May is running things with her circle of civil servants and bypassing cabinet ministers.
As it happens the Welsh conservative party are having a new leader.

I simply couldn’t vote for any of the above.
I say bring back William Haig or Ken Clark.

I don't think we'll have much choice. If the Tories are stupid enough to stab TM in the back the next PM will be JC.

Hi Sir Merv....With the possibility of Tom Watson, John Macdonald, Emily Thornbury and Diana Abbot sitting on his front bench l think it unlikely that the electorate would be that stupid.Mervyn and Trish wrote: 09 Aug 2018, 19:21I don't think we'll have much choice. Let's hope l am right and you are wrong for all our sakes

At the moment it appears that the Tories are hell bent on handing it to Corbyn and his left wing loonies

Re: Next Prime Minister?
I like old Ken Clarke. As it's his last term in Parliament, he's got nothing to lose, so he tells it straight. I like that in a politician.GillD46 wrote: 09 Aug 2018, 18:31I simply couldn’t vote for any of the above.

Out of the names listed, the only one I could tolerate would be Sajid Javid.
The thought of Corbyn, Johnson or Rees Mogg as PM would make me fear (even more) for the future of this country.
I think Keir Starmer and David Lammy have potential. As it stands at the moment, I couldn't vote for either Conservative or Labour. If The Labour leaders were Starmer or Lammy, I'd vote Labour (last time I voted Labour was 1979)

Re: Next Prime Minister?
I genuinely can't think of a single politician that would make a good leader at the moment.
Maybe Javid seems the best of a mediocre bunch.
Whoever it is, let's pray that it's not one of the old guard. I've had enough of them to last me a life time.
Johnny Mercer seems pretty sharp.

Anna Soubry!!!
Personally Kate Hoey and Frank Field seem to be in the wrong party. I like both of them. Of course Frank Field was in the Conservatives but left due to his opposition to apartheid in South Africa. Pity.

Re: Next Prime Minister?
If Corbyn ever gets to be PM it will be in name only - he is just a puppet for Momentum.
My hope would be for Boris, for the sheer comedy value and the fact that a brexiteer leader would have to take responsibility for whatever happens post-brexit.

It would certainly keep BBC news happy, Trump and Boris should provide enough material to keep 2 rolling news channels busy.

Re: Next Prime Minister?
l'm not ready to see Theresa May ousted as for me she stands head and shoulders above what is on offer as an alternative.....If however she sells us short over Brexit then l will no doubt be eating my words.
Boris for PM?....he has by all accounts the intellect, the vision (if you believe Brexit is the way forward) He isn't afraid to say what others are politically afraid to say and he has that likability factor......If he retains all theses attributes for another 20 years he could well be our prime minister.....until then he needs to grow up a bit and stop this tally ho approach to politics, one day he might have to deal with the consequences.

I can’t believe that anybody is seriously considering any of the names that have been mentioned.
And May is probably the worst Prime Minister we’ve had in my lifetime. Even worse than Gordon Brown.

Re: Next Prime Minister?
To be fair Qb......In this present leadership role l don't think anyone would relish the challenges that she is having to face. The fact remains, if the oposition (EU) don't want to play ball you will never score goals. Most are judging our PM by what isn't happening in Brexit negotiations (if you believe what the press say are saying) yet none of her would be leadership challengers have come out and said "l cane do it better"Quizzical Bob wrote: 17 Aug 2018, 09:20I can’t believe that anybody is seriously considering any of the names that have been mentioned.

She still holds the confidence of most of her cabinet, perhaps they know better the complexities of what she is trying to achieve ?

Perhaps we should parachute a businessman into the job, Richard Branson, James Dyson or at least someone with a successful negotiating record, maybe just a damn good poker player.
