Re: Question?

Stephen they wanted to know his exact movements when he found out etc he was able to tell them that a policeman called at his home to tell him so that was good. Luckily he was at work and has witnesses, not least at this end the policeman watching me ring his work and him talking to our son on the phone.
They were also very interested to find out where were both keys.
Now it all passes to the engineering department for them to work out how much they will offer him.
As he only had the car for less than four weeks and it's less than two years old and in excellent condition we are keeping our fingers crossed that he won't lose out too much.

Hope so too Lindsey, but you know what some insurance companies are like. The slightest excuse to wriggle out....

Absolutely Stephen .........Lindsey when they do make an offer your son's first words should be........."I'm very disappointed with that offer"......then quote the top book price and emphasise what good condition it was in......If you have a photo of the car say you will send this as proof .......whatever don't accept their first offer.

Good luck

No news yet from the insurers, son is going to chase them up later in the week.
In the middle of all this his car insurance expires at the end of this week so he is s not renewing it until he knows the outcome of the claim.
So in order for him to drive our car we had to include him on our insurance, fully comp for three months until our policy is up for renewal cost £94.
We have had to declare his claim for his car hence the price.

Our car is also keyless so we have bought a stoplock as a deterrent.

A tracker might be a good idea on both your car Lindsey and your sons next vehicle. Just a thought.

Well the insurance company have been in touch with their offer.
The car cost £12,999 and he had only had it for approx three weeks. Included in the £12,999 was £299 for an extended warranty.
All this is on the invoice sent to Esure.

Their offer is £12,300.

Personally I think that's very good I expected it to be less than that.
Son is thinking it over this evening but is minded to accept the offer.

It will give him the finance to buy something comparable.

Thanks to all who contributed to this thread with your helpful suggestions.!!!

hopefully the last update for this saga.

Insurance cheque arrived by special delivery and has been banked, son is collecting his replacement car tomorrow. A Citroen DS3 which also has an immobiliser but is not keyless. He is also taking out what is called gap insurance through the dealer which costs £300 for three years which you pay monthly. It the case of theft it will pay the excess and any difference between what you pay for the car and what the insurance company says its worth at the time, so as time goes on if anything happens he will get back what he paid f or it. His insurance cost a bit more despite him being told that it would not affect the policy, he has also purchased a steering wheel lock.
We found out at the Ford dealer that three Ford Fiesta ST have been stolen from their owners in a short space of time, one man has his stolen from his drive after only one day. Seems a bit of a coincidence.

Anyway lets hope that this is the end of it all now.

Hi Lindsey

Considering what some insurance companies would have offered l think your son has come out of it with a fair offer....albeit still out of pocket by several hundred pounds.

I just hope he now doesn't get clobbered when he renews his car insurance.

l think it is so unfair that those who have their cars stolen end up out of pocket.....l actually think adults who steel should face much harsher penalties... if l had my way l would reintroduce the birch for crimes of thieft.....no l'm not joking!

Anyway l'm pleased to hear things have been resolved

Regards

keith

Regarding gap insurance. If possible cancel it with the dealer and take it out independently - you, or your son, will get it at a fraction of the cost. Dealer gap insurance is notorious as a money spinner fort he dealer.

Are you old enough to remember when the Isle of Man had the birch. I'm not sure whether they still have it but crime on the island was minimal. No doubt the liberals will tell us it is barbaric but so is theft from innocent people which leaves them upset and out of pocket. There is little by way of a deterrence even if the lowlifes are caught.

Pleased to hear something has been sorted with the insurance company but nothing will take the worry and upset away.
