Re: BT September price increase
Thanks Maureen but I've already been put through to that department and while they offered me what seemed a good deal they couldn't do anything about the fault. I've been all round the country with BT (not to mention India) and talked to lots of different people, all very nice and sympathetic and all completely unable to help me.

Re: BT September price increase
This is why I won't go with BT for my broadband. Indian call centres which I can never understand, and as you mentioned earlier, extortionate price hikes when you go out of contract, made even worse when a situation like your occurs.
Have you tried 'Live Chat' anneeed? (see link below + one other)
Failing that I would as David mentions contact Ofcom or cancel any direct payments to BT, they'll soon be in touch then. And if they threaten legal action say 'go ahead'. From what you say, you are out of contract, so you are entitled to just move to another provider without incurring any penalties. Most providers include line rental in they're packages. The new provider will deal with the transfer themselves meaning you don't need to contact BT. As for the line rental, you could request they refund any complete months of remaining line rental.
Good luck

Years ago I had a problem with my mobile phone which, at the time, was on Cellnet. After getting no sense out of them for three months I cancelled my Direct Debit. Three months later they noticed and called me. When I explained why, they sorted the problem overnight and waived the missing payments.

Ooh that was a brave move! I'd be worried about my credit rating being affected.

And I am thinking of switching but have already been told I'd lose the line rental money. I can't face anymore arguing so I'll probably hang on till that expires. My pay as you go mobile is with Three and I've never had any problems with them so might see what they can offer. Anyone else have landline and broadband with them? And would I have to have a new phone number?

A contract has been entered into and if the Direct Debit is cancelled then you are legally obliged to pay using another method. This is because you are still receiving the service. As per ...
Remember that cancelling the Direct Debit simply stops payments from going to the organisation you are paying. If you carry on receiving the goods or service then you will have to organise an alternative payment method.

As I understood it from Anneed's post she is out of contract. In any case I doubt the supplier would wish to defend their conduct in any kind of legal action.

Re: BT September price increase
Yes she is out of contract, but still would need to let the provider know that she is stopping payment, that's if she decided to go down that route. From what I understand, the problem is trying contact the provider, as in BT, which is why I said 'stop payment, they will soon be in contact then'.
Allot of the large corporates are they're own worst enemy. You try and contact them and just get sent round in circles or end up waiting a life time on the phone.

Agree Stephen, that's why l suggested trying the "l want to leave number" They are very quick to answer quiries when they think they will lose custom.Stephen wrote: 23 Aug 2018, 07:22Yes she is out of contract, but still would need to let the provider know that she is stopping payment, that's if she decided to go down that route.
