In Tesco today they already have the chocs/cards etc on sale and I bought my first mince pies of the year, for anyone who hasn't tried them Tesco Finest mince pies are excellent and far better than M&S which is quite a statement coming from someone who swears by M&S food.

Christmas is Coming !!
I know this will upset a few of the 'Bah Humbugs' but Christmas is on the horizon

I am trying to ignore all the current special offers on tubs of chocolates especially if you buy 2. They wouldn't last 2 minutes in our house so would have to buy even more for Christmas. In Boots today they were loading the shelves with all the Christmas cards and presents.
I'm not so greedy with mince pies so they would probably be safe in our house - well maybe not.

Crikey. Sorry to be a bah humbug but Christmas is still more than 3 months away. I love Christmas but really hate is spreading beyond December, let alone into September. I'll save my excitement for later. For now it's just the shops jockeying to be first with the sales.

That 'C' word shouldn't be mentioned until at least January December. Why is it women get all excited about Christmas yet men couldn't give a t*ss.
As long as the telly don't pack up and I've got a drink and some nibbles, I'm happy.....ish.

I can certainly vouch for Tesco's finest, even better if you sling them in the microwave for 10 seconds yum! yum!
Whilst l don't like Christmas shopping starting to soon one has to take into account that many people don't have the option of doing Christmas shopping at leisure....for them early opening 'weeks' allow them to get organised.

Re: Christmas is Coming !!
it is not spoken of until at least after my birthday - Remembrance Sunday weekend, then only so we can buy presies before the shops are heaving.
Basic organisation can wait until after Advent Sunday ( Dec 2) - altho' I am organising an children's Advent workshop on 24th Nov - when the children will be reminded in some detail that it is NOT a Christmas event - Advent means approaching (ish)

Christmas in the Caribbean for me and the family again this year so low key at home - won't "trim" up - we'll enjoy all the trees and trimmings on Britannia
Also means I won't buy chocolates etc. - won't be home to eat them and I certainly won't want them when I get home

Women tend to get more excited about Christmas because it's mostly women who do all the planning and all the shopping! My daughter had some wonderful Christmas tree lights from John Lewis last year so I keep checking their website - and yes they do have a marked section for Christmas now - to see if they have got them in again - not yet!

Iβm with you Jo. We are currently in Cyprus, but when we get back, I shall get into shopping for Christmas - especially as we have to take presents with us when we visit our son and his partner in KL in November.
Bring it on!

Re: Christmas is Coming !!
I thought it was time you contributed to this thread Sue - any Christmas cakes made yet? Love the video clips, especially the little girl 'princess'. Glad to know it's good for us to plan and decorate early. How early to decorate? Don't usually do it till second week in December - if I have a real tree I can't bring it in too early even if it is in water. If anyone has any tips about prolonging the life of a real tree I'd be interested - other than taking some off the bottom when getting it home, putting it outside in water and then trimming a little more off the bottom before bringing it inside.

Re: Christmas is Coming !!
We stumbled across our favourite alcoholic drink in Asda last week.
It's a spiced rum called Old J.
It's like drinking vanilla toffee apples and up until now, has only been available to buy retail on line.
Anyway, it seems Asda are trialling it and as there were only two bottles left, we bought them both ' for Xmas'
You've guessed !
Opened already !
A couple of large ones, served on the rocks, with Coke and a slice of lime.
We may take one on our November cruise and hope that they re-stock.

I have discovered over a period of many years that the best way to prolong the life of a tree β¦ is to leave it in the ground.

I'm very envious Jan, we did the Caribbean at Christmas for over twenty years and I loved every one, unfortunately we can no longer go due to insurance restrictions but I still love Christmas on a ship closer to home.Jan Rosser wrote: 20 Sep 2018, 11:54Christmas in the Caribbean for me and the family again this year so low key at home - won't "trim" up - we'll enjoy all the trees and trimmings on Britannia![]()

Iβm after a new Kenwood Chef.. industrial size
Alex bought me a new cuisinart food processor with lots of accessories a couple of years ago thinking it was good for making cakes.
Itβs not...
Itβs great for chopping veg and making coleslaw though
So Iβm now dropping hints for my new cake mixer cos they are not cheap
