My husband has just had a phone call from the pre op assessment clinic his appointment for his assessment next Monday is cancelled due to an emergency. How do they know a week in advance that they will have an emergency.
Lindsey
Its so frustrating Lindsey...sorry to hear that.

so sorry to hear that Lindsey
It went against the grain of my basic principals, but when I needed a knee replacement, I went private
Mainly because I had left it about two years after it should have been done, due to A. working & B. being a bit of a coward.
It cost 7K and was done in about two weeks, in a great local private hospital.
No complaints and a few years on, what a difference to my life.

Yep, had that too. Either just another fob off or one hell of a crystal ball.

Not sure how the pre assement unit that only deals with checking patients that are coming into hospital in the future get an emergency, and as you say Whynd1 a week in advance. They have nothing to do with sick patients in that particular clinic, I should know, I've attended enough of them. They check your height, weight, blood pressure and swab for mrsi, ask some questions, get you to sign some forms, then send you off for blood tests and a cardiology check as required, and that's it. If it were me I would question this so called emergency.

Husband has his pre op assessment today and all ran to plan. At the large hospital in Swansea the plastic surgery pre op assessment is a one stop shop so to speak. These days neurosurgery comes under plastic surgery.
All done in one place.
So just wait now.

That’s for the update. Hope the MRI wasn’t too hideuos. It would be for me, as I am horribly claustrophobic. And hope your results are with you soon and that you are then able to move forward.

Good luck x

Thanks Gill,

I was informed that my results could.take up to five week as there is a backlog. I've had a couple of MRI'S before so for me it didn't hold any fears, whilst understanding how some would find the experience very claustrophobic....l asked the nurse to hold my hand but her arm wasn't long enough to reach inside

l find the worst thing about having an MRI is the noise it makes.....and that's while listening to radio 2 with ear muffs on.

Regards

keith

Have taken my husband this morning to the local day surgery unit for the operation to release the nerve in his arm and to cut his hands to release the tendons.
Have had three cups of coffee already this morning. I can see the dog having a long walk later.

I hope all goes well for him.
When I had my carpal tunnel opeated on I had the shock of my life. In my naivety I thought it would be a case of sitting in a chair whilst they did the necessary. You can imagine the look on my face when they gowned me up and led me through to an operating theatre where everybody else was robed up. Having said that it was nothing to get excited about, even as, in my case, I had both wrists done at the same time. The most painful bit was when they took the tourniquets off.
Good luck to your husband over there in Taffyland.
I was taught to be cautious

Thank you once.
He is home now but has his arm in a sling for a week.
Back up to the main hospital next Friday for a check up.
