I'd be quite happy if the money did go to those who were genuinely in need and there are people out there who are in genuine need but don't know how to access the benefits they should be getting.
What irks me are those who choose benefits as a way of life, claiming every benefit they can get their hands on without ever doing a day's work in their lives. Our local town is not affluent by any means and sports a food bank and numerous charity shops. However there are plenty of nail bars springing up, betting shops, vaping shops, tattoo parlours etc and Costa is never short of clients. Something somewhere does not add up.
Why is it that those who wander the streets can afford labels such as Superdry and North Face, short of having nicked them? It always baffles me how the junkies and alcoholics afford them.
(We once took some clothes to a charity for the homeless and they turned them down because they weren't designer labels!!! Clearly good enough for me but not the homeless!!)

Designer labels are cheaper than M&S or Primark ... old stock, from the pub and / or fake.

I can afford cruises now because I worked bloody hard, didn't drink a lot, never smoked, didn't go on fancy holidays I couldn't afford when I was younger, didn't buy stuff on HP, didn't change my car or phone every two years, paid into a pension scheme, bought added years when I was made redundant, bought added years in my wife's pension to bridge the gap when she was at home raising our daughter, and saved every penny I could. I'm not ready to hand it over because an economically illiterate Marxist says so,

None of our political leaders or those around them do badly but don't give us a load of hogwash that "we are looking after the vulnerable in our society " by making empty promises. I was frankly appalled by the disdain of the Labour hierarchy and their aides. What a load of hypocrites!!!

I watched quite a bit of Sky news last week which was mainly about the Labour party conference. As one after another Labour big wig highlighted the way they were going to change the UK by ensuring the poorest benefited, and the wealthiest paid higher taxes, I wondered how it was that all the Labour govts since the war had failed to remedy this social inequity? Of course they do try but they haven't yet grasped that the wealthy have the means to ensure they don't pay higher taxes, so in the end its the middle classes who end up paying for Labour's largesse.
