Well … I, indeed we, cannot believe just how easy it was going to be.

Absolutely painless and nothing to get stressed about, the hardest part it seems is not moving ones eye for what seems like a lifetime but is in reality about 15 minutes. A Keyhole cut of 2.5mm and a Chicken Sandwich 'n' Coffee to finish off.

The Consultant did his follow up on Mobietta's first eye yesterday. This was her ' distance ' eye and it had been bad enough to prohibit driving without a change of lenses / glasses.

Anyhowz ...

She is now able to read the penultimate line on the ' chart ' WITHOUT her driving glasses

Her other eye will be operated on in about three weeks time but meanwhile she will be able to drive

Thank you for asking. My cataract procedure has been successful, according to the man, but I still don’t feel that my eyes are balanced. The left eye seems to be dominant. The man said that perhaps my brain is now favouring the left eye, when previously my right was the dominant one. However, it could be that because of the op, my left eye is seeing things clearer because of the new lens, (are you still with me on this?🤔) therefore perhaps I need an op on my right eye to insert a new lens.
I’ve had a checkup, but I have to go back to see him at the end of June 🙄. If you remember, ahem, I had the cataract op as the original problem, a crinkle on my retina, made me see wavy lines and the op to correct that would leave me with a cataract within weeks. ( everyone still awake?😄)
I’ll let you know the outcome.

It is indeed very good news, thanks, however she has recently discovered that one of her brake pipes ( on her car ) needs replacing so she can't actually drive very far with her new powers

Well …. eye No 2 was done yesterday.

Mobietta's sight was a tad blurred this time, perfectly normal it seems but either way the situation is much improved today. She has unfortunately had to stay indoors all day due to ' glare ' which is a shame on what seems to be the hottest day of the year so far.

Have yet to discover if glasses will be needed for reading, the consultation next week will perhaps provide a clue.

Ken bought a pair of wrap around sunglasses at the opticians for £36 which go over his normal glasses for when he is driving. He tried several pairs until he found a pair that were not too huge but they seem to be helping with glare for when he is driving. He wears ordinary sunglasses when not in the car. Might be worth checking with the opticians.

It's all over now.

Mobietta is wearing £19 ( on offer ) Wrap-a-round Polaroid sun glass from Boots for the glare and at a similar price some of their 2.5 dioptre reading glasses.

The consultant signed her off yesterday and the final result is such that her sight has been restored to how it was 50 years ago !!!

This means that she now has near perfect distance vision and will only need to consider buying prescription reading glasses for use in the dimmest of light when coupled with smallest of print fonts.

The moral is that if you are facing a cataract op then look forward to it with pleasure rather than fear.

Our thanks for your help and contributions on this Topic

So pleased that Mobietta is OK.

My eyesight has not settled. My specialist suggested that I have my left eye set for ‘middle distance’. The result has been far from satisfactory.....looooooong story. I’m now stuck between the Optician and specialist giving me advice. Optician says if mar take a year to settle!!!! Ah well as I say looooong story.

But as I said, so,pleased for Mobietta’s good result.

Oh dear, that's really unfortunate ' TE ', the NHS blurb and the consultant do of course advise that difficulties may arise and that the settling in period can vary ( up to 6 months I recall ) but my inclination would be to heed the advise of the Specialist rather than an Optician.

Either way, may the luck go with you.

The difficulty has arisen because apparently my left eye is my dominant eye....ramble ramble etc etc. My vision in my left eye was so poor that the specialist couldn’t tell which was my dominant eye. I believe that the optician (or optometrist as they like to be called now) should have known this as I’d been using him for several years and I always had more than a basic eye exam, The Optom trains Optoms, so he’s a specialist himself.
The specialist has offered to put a second lens in my left eye (you can’t the first one out 🧐), but the Optom says that would be too much surgery on my eye in a short time and I could end up with a bulge on my eye.......🤨 Thanks for reading 🙂

Hi ' T.E.' … three months have passed and I notice that you are looking in from time to time so may I enquire if any progress has been made on the eye front ?

Just as a question how long did you have to wait for the operation and was it NHS. Some hospitals are saying at least 6 months from going on waiting list.

Thanks

We are in a ' Scheme ' so Mobietta's ops were done privately, at a BMI Hospital in Dorchester. There was no waiting time at any stage.

In Dorset the waiting time using the NHS is between 9 and 12 months. No idea how long the wait is for the second eye, if required.

The 18 week waiting time went out the window then. In fact it went out the window ages ago as I know only too well.

Hi, thanks for asking. My eye has improved greatly :) . It’s not perfect, but perhaps I’m expecting too much. My Optom said that it could take up to a year to get maximum improvement.

I had the op because I had an epi-retinal crease. The op to fix that brings on an cataract. I was almost blind in the right side of my left eye. I had my op done, through BUPA, in the Nuffield hospital in Chandlers Ford Nr Southampton. I had to wait, but my eyesight was deteriorating and the Optom said I needed the op quickly.
