I was looking at that model John. It gets good reviews, but a non starter if it won't accept compatible cartridges. I'm certainly not forking out the silly money asked for genuine ones.
The nozzles clog up with the compatible., cartridges I have bought, but Merv has no issues with the ones he buys, so maybe you would be lucky.

Merv doesn't buy them. They're part of his BBC pension :D

I just bought the Epson XP-6005 £50 (down from £150) at PC World/Currys and compatible cartridges are available.

It prints, scans, copies is wi-fi friendly as well as air-print.

Could be what I'm after David. Did the printer come with any ink?

A couple of draw back backs from several reviews are, you have to lift the control pane forward every time you want to print and the print tray is flimsy and fiddly to pull out.

Cheapest price for compatible in on Amazon was £25 with good reviews of performance.

Yes

I just leave the output tray out all the time. My one criticism is that depending on where you have the printer the control panel can be difficult to read.

Perhaps, but you get used to it and is probably no worse than any other printer.

I have had a Lexmark, Brother, HP and currently an Epson printer, never had 2 of the same brand and all have performed well, for their time, and all lasted a few years and none failed too early. The replacements have all been the best deal I could achieve for the specification I wanted, after on line research and, where possible, checking them out physically in Currys or Comet to ensure they would fit on my desk shelf. The only downside to this is that I have been left with lots of useless cartridges.

Yes they're cunning aren't they. Very careful to make sure the latest model won't use the old cartridges. Even if you buy the same brand. Thus ensuring waste and new purchases. Was it Heinz who said the profit on tomato ketchup was the last bit you couldn't get out of the bottle?

Ordered a Epsom XP-452 from John Lewis. Pretty much like my current printer (print/copy/scan). Under £50 with two year warranty and compatible ink as cheap as chips.

But I bet the warranty will be null and void the moment you go within 5 yards of it with cheap ink!

:shh: I won't tell if you won't.
Anyway, at the end of the day who cares. It would be cheaper to buy a new printer than genuine Epson ink.

I was reminded today why I buy non-genuine ink. I was forced to buy some genuine Epson stuff locally as my need was urgent and I couldn't wait for my regular on-line supplier to deliver. £54.99 for the set! Compared to £21.96 if I buy cheapie. So if my printer lasts only ten sets of ink, which is pessimistic, that's £330! Enough to buy several new printers.

My Epson x335 just does not like compatible inks, it ceases to work when I have used them so I now have to pay full price for Epson inks.

Genuine ink has always been a rip off. Like you I always buy no genuine and find the company 'king of flash' ink on Amazon to be a good supplier.

Printers are getting clever now - they try to object if you do not use their "genuine" cartridges!

Just realised lied about the cheapo price. I use IJT direct and they regularly send me half price vouchers, so it's about £12 a set.

My current printer is an SX435W. It says it doesn't recognise the cheapo ink but works anyway. It is getting a bit mechanically cronky now but when it is ready for replacement IJT also do printer deals where you buy several sets of their ink (usually 2-4) and they give you the printer free.

Kept our old inkjet for the scanning facility
Can highly recommend, colour printing, double sided printing with economy settings.

I've always had Epson printers and they always try the scare mongering trick of 'you are using non genuine ink' and try to get you to fork out for their stuff. I just click continue and away it goes.

Generally don't print photos but with correct paper it does a good job.
If I want a photo I use the photo facility at Boots/Asda/wherever :)
