Scrap Trident?
A story on the news this morning suggested scrapping Trident (or its replacement) and then mentioned a phenomenal number of billions that project is currently costing us (something like £140bn). Assuming the story was accurate surely we have better uses for such money at this point of time.

I support keeping, maintaining and developing the fleet of nuclear submarines.

Scrapping Trident is not a new idea....it was suggested months ago...we don't need it....However this government of austerity prefer to have hungry children, homeless people and millions of unemployed.

Why support something we can no longer afford? Scrap Trident, leave the EU and our deficit is virtually wiped out overnight. Let's face up to the fact we are now a small island nation and no longer a genuine super power. Let's start living within our means.
I was taught to be cautious

Hmmmm - if staying independent means having a jolly good means of defence ......... scrap Trident and full steam ahead for the development and maintenance of it's replacement.

I personally would much prefer retaining our land based capabilities than spending billions on something which in reality will never be used... again...When we think about nuclear attacks most I believe would use Hiroshima and Nagasaki as examples of their destructive power....today’s nuclear weapons would make those used then look like bonfire night crackers today. If the unthinkable was to happen then it would be the end of the world as we know it...make no mistake about that ...a global food shortage would ensue and cancer clinics would do a roaring trade due to this Goverments privatisation of our NHS

Why not have a look at this website before making a judgment?

Many of our finest scientists and engineers have devoted their careers to maintaining and developing an independent deterrent for the UK

Yes Bassman,
There are some singularly talented people devoting themselves to ensuring that this country has a first class means of defence - and maybe some of the forum members are parents of some of these wonderful devoted talented people.
So - scrap Trident (maybe) develop and maintain a replacement - most definitely.
