It was horrendous in Morrisons this morning, not helped by the fact that I had left my list at home so I am sure I will find that something quite vital is missing.

Tell me about it.

Mrs S and I thought we'd get down there just after 9.30 for 10pm opening and get some shopping mainly for today. I think the world and his mother were already there. Even worse when we came out. The car park was horrendous with cars queuing to get in.

I thought as we drove out, 'rather you than me'

I have my shopping delivered by Sainsbury's regularly, and at this time of year it's a godsend.
As I have a delivery pass it enables to me to book a Christmas slot early.

All the list was fulfilled with just the salad having a few close sell by dates.

I had my supermarket delivered today at 8.59 - a minute early! The only problem was they had no chestnuts, but everything else was fine, so I can let them off a bag of chestnuts. Just have to collect my M&S food order (turkey, veggies, nut roast) tomorrow, again at 9am and I’m done.

I spent the afternoon making sausage roll wreaths and tiffin squares. The house smells delicious!

We thought we would be smart and do our last minute shopping on Friday. Mistake as it seemed everybody else had had the same idea. The traffic on the road into the supermarket was backed up, the car park itself heaving and everybody seemed frazzled although we did manage to have a few amusing exchanges with some. To make matters worse the supermarket had decided to bring stock out into the now congested aisles on large trollies and leave them there clogging the place up. Queues at the checkouts were horrendous and fortunately we only had a basket so we could go through the basket only checkouts.
The exit from the supermarket was equally fraught as it leads onto one of those elephant dropping style roundabouts where nobody seems sure whose right of way it is and everybody behind gets frustrated. Fortunately we had decided to park in the car park next door and make the short walk in and consequently an easier exit.
Thank goodness that's it for another year. The way some trollies were stacked up I think they were laying siege. Crazy!!!

Not so crazy though OBF. Many have large numbers of family staying that need feeding, or are like us and are alone on Christmas Day but hosting parties on both Boxing Day and NYE.

That's true Gill but I wonder how much will be wasted.
PS If Lindsey's having the sausage roll wreath can I have the tiffin?

It was a BIG mistake making the tiffin! It is FAR too tempting! As for the sausage roll wreath, they are veggie sausages (so I can eat them too) so you may want to pass......

We had two online deliveries from Sainsbugs and between the dates of the 15th December and the 3rd January we have selected meals that could be pre-prepared / stored or / and frozen. We drove / will drive to a mini supermarket and while one cruises round the car park t'other nips in for the milk and cream etc. No hanging about in large supermarkets being shunted about by idiots with trolleys but we do need to have some self frozen else tinned veges as a consequence.

I too have food delivered - by Ocado. I first used them back in 2009 when I broke my ankle and have continued to use them ever since. The variety of food they offer is amazing - Waitrose is their main provider but they use hundreds of other suppliers. So I had a delivery from them on Friday at 9am and on Saturday John went to get my M&S order - Turkey etc. As I'm 'doing' Christmas lunch this year I decided to take the easy way out as recommended by friends, and use M&S as my caterers. I'll let you know how it goes! So today is getting the table finished off, chairs sorted etc. There's only 10 of us thank goodness and three of those are children from 3 to 9 so that will be fun. Hopefully they'll get some sleep tonight - last year my Grandson, then aged 5, was ready to start the day at 3.30 and didn't get back to sleep after that!

I hope everyone's Christmas Day is enjoyable.

OBF, down south we are getting really mild weather, good for walking although we did just walk into town to get the bits and pieces I had missed off the list I had forgotten to take with me yesterday. It looks as if you are getting excellent walking weather as well. A lovely photo.
