I chomped on a Taco chip a few years back and ended up with a £2k implant. And got my crown after eating a bread roll.

Granary bread was my downfall  supposed to be healthy but most costly loaf I've ever bought - had to have an implant as a result :lolno:

Well l visited the dentist this afternoon only to be told the tooth that was retaining the bridge tooth had broken. This means that there won't be enough tooth to replace another bridge....l'm having whats left of the tooth extracted on Friday.

I'm left with 4 options.....NHS plate £257...private mini plate £550.....implant £2k+......or live with it.

It's only when l give a big smile can you see straght through to my tonsils so l'll get the extraction out of the way before making g any decisions......the up side is that people l have met say it hasn't detracted from my dashing good looks

My husband is in a similar situation. He had a tooth that had been filled a few times and the fillings kept coming out. The dentist said that the tooth will eventually need to come out. Anyway, a few weeks ago the tooth snapped off. He’s been booked in to have the rest of the tooth out in a few weeks time.

Although the tooth is near the front, it doesn’t notice as he doesn’t show his teeth much when he talks or even smiles. It’s only if he really bares his teeth that it can be seen.

No sure yet what he’ll do afterwards

I thought implants were nearer £1000 than £2000. A lot of money

No Gill mine was just over £2000 and that was four years ago and for just one tooth but quite honestly I've never regretted spending the money - I hated the gap which I knew was there even if people said it wasn't obvious.

Hi Jan..As you may have gathered, once my broken tooth is removed l will be left with a minus two tooth gap...thankfully not my two front teeth but the two next to them. You don't notice the gap when in normal conversation so l'm not too concerned at the moment.

l was discussing the predicament with my wife this aftetnoon and she said if it was her she would definitely have implants, but said l should wait and see how l feel..."in a few years time" lol

From what l have been reading it's not a quick fix and can take many months before you get your new nashers installed ....may l ask how long your procedure took to get sorted?

Kind regards

Keefy

Hi Gill.....l'm sure this will have already been discussed with your husbands dentist but just in case......could the tooth be pinned then have a crown fitted?
I had one done 10 years ago and it is still in place. I suppose it depends on how much tooth has broken away.

Regards

Keith

Dear Keefy

I was referred to a dentist specialising in implants and cosmetic surgery and after the initial consultation and what the procedure entailed and the cost I had the little "op" about 6 weeks later (could have been done earlier but I had family visiting). I felt absolutely nothing - had something called “conscious sedation” and was completely oblivious to what was going on but wasn’t allowed to drive for the rest of the day. I didn’t realise that he would be fixing a temporary tooth to the implant and so no gap straightaway. I went back after approximately three months (the implant needs to "bed in") and had the permanent tooth screwed onto the implanted rod and bobs your uncle all fixed. The most painful part was the cost  however although I only had one tooth I understand that I could have had more than one tooth attached but of course that would have been more for the extra tooth. So I suppose you could say the whole procedure from start to finish was about 4 to 5 months. I wouldn’t hesitate to have another implant if I ever needed one.

Go for it - you won't regret it ;)

Thank you Jan,
