This is always coming "We did not elect this Prime Minister" - er well actually under our system, unlike the Presidential system in other countries, we do not elect a Prime Minister - the PM is, normally, the leader of the party that is able to form a Government.

It is quite feasible under our system that the leader of the party that is forming the Government does not get elected so I suppose if that was to happen there would be some crying out for another GE

I'll also give it a miss.

I might watch when it's down to the last two, not that our opinion matters.

Anybody on here actually allowed to vote?
Me.👍

I can too - vote I mean! No I won't be watching tonight. As we are out today I think we're recording the India/Pakistan cricket so I've that to look forward to this evening - how wonderful. Maybe one day someone can explain the rules of cricket to me!

Maybe whoever wrote that could do the same, as succinctly, for brexit, then the new PM could use it to secure our safe exit! :sarcasm: :?

Whilst we are at it we may as well get the offside rule explained as well...........

Looks like the knives are out within the Tory party. They always say a true friend stabs you in the front but this lot are merciless.

Thank you both of you - I think. I'm sure I'll be watching the next match with increased understanding!??? I now need to turn my attention to the multi quote tutorial - after which I think I'll need to go and lie down in a darkened room!

On a slightly different point I heard some Labour voters being interviewed yesterday moaning about a new Prime Minister being chosen by the Tory party without a general election. They've clearly forgotten Gordon Brown.
Guess which of the candidates for unelected Prime Minister said this 12 years ago in 2007?

“It’s the arrogance. It’s the contempt. That’s what gets me. It’s Gordon Brown’s apparent belief that he can just trample on the democratic will of the British people. It’s at moments like this that I think the political world has gone mad, and I am alone in detecting the gigantic fraud.
They voted for Anthony Charles Lynton Blair to serve as their leader. They were at no stage invited to vote on whether Gordon Brown should be PM… They voted for Tony, and yet they now get Gordon, and a transition about as democratically proper as the transition from Claudius to Nero. It is a scandal. Why are we all conniving in this stitch-up? This is nothing less than a palace coup… with North Korean servility, the Labour Party has handed power over to the brooding Scottish power-maniac.
The extraordinary thing is that it looks as though he will now be in 10 Downing Street for three years, and without a mandate from the British people. No one elected Gordon Brown as Prime Minister…
Gordon Brown could appease public indignation over that, and secure the democratic mandate he needs, by asking the public to vote at once on him, on the new EU treaty, and on the implications of the devolutionary settlement. Let’s have an election without delay.”

Barney it reminded me of a bad day interviewing when you find you couldn't make one decent appointment out of all of them. I am now just looking forward to BOJO getting the job and finding himself in the same spiders web as Teresa May with all the Remainers bent on punishing him.

All the time that Parliament is continuing to ignore the result Ray, I suspect that you are correct.
Come the GE, which I think will be sooner than many think, the make up will be considerably different.
Many MPs on both sides will be looking for a different job.

Both main party's local activists will be unselecting when the date is announced in hope of hanging on to the seat.

Did anyone notice that Rory Stewart took his tie off during the 'debate'?

On checking this morning that I hadn't imagined it, I discovered that this was because "we were moving into an alternate reality". My beloved is threatening to spout this nonsense on a formal night.
